Betawatch: June 5th, 2015

It's about time.

It’s always nice when a game finally launches after a seeming eternal beta. Assuming it doesn’t, you know, die shortly thereafter. Trove is the latest “hasn’t that already launched” title to go into a full launch, and we wish it well, even if it’s not pulling the launch trigger until July 9th.

What else happened this week? Oh, you know, stuff.

Like we always do it, there’s a whole list of other titles just below. Did something slip into release or functional release without us noticing? Tip us off in the comments!

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed.

Sadly, here’s the reality of it:
1) The name “Blizzard” gets all sorts of coverage by association thanks to WoW.
2) This site runs on ads, which rely on page clicks.   The popularity of #1 is what brings the clicks.
Bonus:
3) Overwatch is the scrapped remnants of Titan, an MMOFPS that was supposed to be like Destiny.   Technically following those scraps is following an MMO.

“It is really fair to cover Overwatch here? It’s not in closed testing
and is in internal testing at best.  Really consider ‘still in
development pre-testing phase’.”
I agree

So this site covers lobby shooters as well? Cool beans.

SkySaga is super fun.   At least the engine is far, far, FAR more stable than TUG is currently.   Although I’ve come across my first “Adventure Troll”, who decided to steal all the loot drops of a Skeleton King I was kite-killing with my bow and mallet+shield rotate combo.  All that work in the fight and I lost out on a Dark Heart as well as few other things.  Irks me the wrong way!

I’ve yet to figure out how to make my home island not a frozen land of cold suck. Would much rather have a jungle biome than the tundra one I’m stuck with.    Making the best of it by reconstructing the old castle ruins that are there.
