EverQuest II is getting time-locked PvE and PvP servers

Holly Longdale’s recent producer’s letter for EverQuest II offered a slew of news, including the announcement that time-locked PvE and PvP servers are coming to the game this year. Unlike the progression servers of its elder sibling, which combine time and progress restrictions, EQII’s could just lock content at a point of time in the game’s history.

But that’s up to the community: Daybreak is asking for feedback in order to make the servers what the players really want. Another notable factoid Longdale let loose was that the design is moving toward less handholding and more allowing players to figure things out because the devs “want EQII to be a thinker’s and strategist’s game.”

Other news includes the just-released Rum Cellar-themed items to the Marketplace (namely, a Rumrunner prestige home, home decor sets, and Zeppelin mount), the June 23rd release of four new Echoes of Faydwer Fabled Dungeons (Acadechism, Court of Innovation, Crypt of Valdoon, and Freethinker Hideout), the addition of Erollisi to deity system in July, and more. Check out the letter for further details.

O snap, that looks really interesting. Too bad I can’t play like I could 10 years ago!

Played the game as a hardcore raider for years, I like this idea and would like to play in a EoF or RoK server.
The problem is: with all those new itemization, the older content is not as hard as they used to be.
I don’t think that  can hold people for long…

I’d love to play on a locked server of the launch game. I think the only thing i’d miss is my Beastlord.

Why do I read more news about Everquest II in the last year than about Everquest Next?

I played EQ2 for several years and loved it, but found out after my first long-term break from the game how hard it was to jump back in. There’s so much content, levels, gear, progression, tiers, AAs, and other systems I couldn’t ever catch back up on. Even starting new characters I would become overwhelmed when attempting to return to the game.

My interest is piqued with these new server rulesets, though! There may be hope I can return back and not be overwhelmed.

Right after they said nay to progression servers on livestream I might add.
