Leaks indicate Destiny’s next expansion will launch September 15th

Let's go take ourselves a king, I guess?

You can never be sure if a leak is on the level or if it’s just a bunch of speculation. But you can make an educated guess, and the news that Destiny‘s next expansion, The Taken King, will launch on September 15th certainly seems plausible. It’s not as if anyone was planning on doing anything else in September, right?

According to the leak the expansion will be priced at $40 and will include a new subclass for each of the main classes, a new elemental super ability, and a new raid pitting players against Oryx, father of Crota. This leak lines up with what players already know about future updates to Destiny, but you can feel free to speculate on whether or not it’s completely legitimate or complete hogwash.

It’s an actual retail expansion. There was some information from before Destiny’s original release, that came out of a lawsuit that Activision was involved in, that showed what at the time was the planned content release structure for Destiny: an alternating yearly pattern of numbered Destiny releases and their ‘Comets’ the following year, with a couple dlc packs in between each retail release.
If they’re still more or less sticking to that formula (which they seem to be), then this would be a ‘comet’ expansion.
Though they’ve taken to calling the past year ‘Destiny Year One’, so they probably wont end up calling 2016’s release Destiny 2. Since it would be Year Three, and that would just be confusingly awkward.

So is this when the huge, free, new world is going to launch as well?

Greaterdivinity Exactly what I was thinking. I don’t think their definition and mine of an expansion coincide well. But, I guess it is a good buzz word. Of course, my favorite buzz word that kicks me into action has “75%” in it. :p

So when they say expansion, do they actually mean expansion this time, or just DLC? It’s hard keeping track of what “Expansion/Update/DLC/etc.” mean for each different developer -_-

The only reason I don’t mind the price of the expansion or even charging for an expansion is because the game doesn’t have a cash shop.
