Naval Action takes open sea warfare to a whole new level

There have been plenty of MMOs, multiplayer titles, and single-player games that have attempted to emulate the grand Age of Sail, but Naval Action might just take the cake. This upcoming sandbox is priding itself on an immaculate attention to detail, from weather effects on sailing to the reconstruction of period warships.

As the name implies, Naval Action’s primary gameplay will be couched in PvE and PvP conflict between ocean-going vessels. There are a wide variety of them, too, from the smallest to the tallest, firing away with all manner of lethal cannon shot. Currently the game’s in beta testing, with pre-orders being your best path to getting in on the early action.

We’ve got several videos from Naval Action for you to watch after the break, so hop to it, sailor!

Armsbend i still play that on steam.   nothing like capturing towns and replacing them with your governor.    I listen to metal from the Netherlands and play as a Dutch lol.

looks pretty cool… like to see where they take this game.   I will be highly interested in what it provides once you step off the ship though onto dry land.   Destinations?  Shops?  Adventures?  Away missions?  Ability to travel together on one boat?  Sailing and combat is great, but what will make it a real game is everything else.

Rohirrim The open world – the exploration, and the crafting – this part is still in development and I don’t know the details yet, but players will somehow have to get resources and build/upgrade their ships. Currently, if you’re in the Open World alpha, you can sail the open sea and look for enemy ships (either AI or other players) to fight and loot. You can even capture enemy ships and take them for your own. Each ship that is crafted will have some unique hidden features that will only become apparent after sailing it for a while. And ships will have a limited number of “lives”; once they get destroyed you’ll have to build/buy another one. I think later they will add the ability to transport and trade cargo from one port to another.

cald This excites me deeply. I don’t want an arcade “World of Ta.. Sails!”
As I’ve grown older I’ve found myself enjoying games that have a more realistic approach, games such as Arma, Squad, P:R and perhaps even War Thunder, comes to mind. I hope Naval Action stay true to their original approach, it doesn’t have to be hardcore-batshit-crazy realism but I’d definitely prefer a more realistic approach versus arcade-y. I hope they strike a good balance with realism and gameplay too, which is always important.
I’m eagerly waiting for when this game is available to the public!

Wow..I just finished 2 seasons of the series Black sails and now I read this article..I am totally sold on this..I detest pvp but in a game like this, with epic battles on the sea, i dont mind.
How the systems work? How you build your ship and upgrade it? Is it like EVE with skills on que or there some kind of xp and levels ro unlock things? Are there pve missipns to get money to buy better ship? Give us more info!!! :)

Also picked this up when it was first available..
Currently its a match paly game similar to world of warships.

The sailing and combat in this game are top notch they have done an awesome job and the boats and sea look stunning.
It does lean more towards the sailing sim side of things than an arcade games, but you can have sailing assists turned on if you dont want to deal with all the sailing sim stuff but you still ahve to deal with the win and the waves..
Battles can take a long time to play out so dont expect to jump in for a 10 min battle or anything that dont really happen.
Am really looknig forward to getting my hands on the open world side of things will be godo to see how they do it.
