Black Desert launching in Korea on July 14

The gorgeous fantasy sandbox Black Desert will be launching in about a month — in Korea, that is. The game posted a notice on the official site stating that it’s aiming for a July 14th release with a sizable amount of new content for players to enjoy.

Along with the launch, the game will be merging all of its open beta shards into one megaserver, retaining player progress and levels. This should increase the potential for PvP conflict and a give the economy a head start when the game goes live next month.

Black Desert is currently operating a Japanese beta as well and has plans to come to North America and Europe in the future.

As long as the NA version keeps the heavy karma penalty system in-place toward gank-style PvPers, I’ll look forward to playing the game when it releases here.

CistaCista housing is phased into. you buy property that exists in the world. when you activate the door you get a little pop up with different versions of that house. almost every building in every town can be purchased. you can easily filter out friends, guild members, or party members. And I think it automatically opens to your house once you’ve purchased it. There is no loading screen. the door just opens and you walk in and your furniture loads. you can look out the windows and see the world. it’s nice.
As far as sandbox elements I’ve only played for a couple days. But things like trading and territory wars are present. There are resource levels in each region so players can “fish out” an area to the point where you can’t catch anything, and it’s the same with other resources. So far I haven’t felt stuck in a zone because of my level and it’s possible to fight monster much much higher level than you because of the fantastic combat system. I still havent figured out how to tell what level monsters are though. And you can’t even see how much health they have until you’ve killed enough of them to gain the knowledge.
A big difference between what I would describe as sanbox gameplay and themepark gameplay is the freedom to do what you want. BD certainly has that and doesn’t feel so “gamey”. Just a world with systems and tools for you to use to meet your ends.

cald It was always a mega-server. This is nothing new these days. Both DCUO and ESO operate on megaservers.

Black Desert was announced to be on one megaserver when the game debuted it’s first trailer. We’re talking since 2013.

cald Probably it’s heavily instanced, so no use for multiple servers…
