The MMO industry mourns the passing of Christopher Lee

If you haven’t heard the news already, then we’re sorry to report that Star Wars and Lord of the Rings actor Christopher Lee has died at age 93. He was certainly a mesmerizing personality on screen, particularly as a villain.

One of Lee’s roles was doing the voice work for EverQuest II faction leader Lucan D’Lere. Former EQII lead Scott Hartsman mentioned this in his condolences on Twitter: “Very sad. An amazing talent. We were lucky to have him voice a main character in EQ2. Added a ton of class.”

Lord of the Rings Online posted a picture of Lee as Saruman from the films, saying, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Christopher Lee today. He will be missed.”

RIP, Mr. Lee.  The last of the great old-school actors has passed.

Faith77 Chuck Norris/his supporters IRL could claim to do and be a lot of things, but most of those things would be lies. +1 Christopher Lee.

A true legend in the industry for sure.  I loved every role that I got to see him portray.   He made such an amazing villian.  I am so glad that he got to live until 93 and was so sharp mentally all the way until the end.  He lived a good life and will be missed.

That’s the thing about mortality, people die. And with so many people alive these days, a single death can go unnoticed, and many deaths become a statistic. I can’t say much about it, really, other than I respected he was an entertainer and used his talents to help ease the boredom of many, which is as noble a thing to do as any. It’s always an interesting situation where you don’t actually know of someone or their works, but you feel compelled to say something.
It’s a testament to how large our world has become. So many people, you can’t possibly know all of them. All you can do is care much for those who’re close to you and have a depth of care there, and an ethical attitude towards the life of others. As such, I hope he didn’t suffer. Always difficult, this, and I am bad at it. The thing is is that due to the nature of our overly large world, and the passing, ephemeral nature of everything, this too will be forgotten, soon, except to those to whom he was closest.
And to them, and for them, I wish them an easy path through their grief.

That gun construction scene was absolutely a classic….even if the movie itself was a bit of a cheese sandwich. :)

He had quite a wonderful and exciting life. We’re so lucky to have so much work he left behind.

While I never watched the Hammer Horror movies, I’ve enjoyed him in every villous role he’s done, from the sinister Lord Summerisle to Count Dooku. For me however, he was the perfect image of Saruman.  He was everything I pictured him to be in the books.

He was criminally underrated.
