Shroud of the Avatar’s zombies are infectious fun

Every MMO, whether sci-fi, fantasy, or equine, must at some point feature zombies. It’s video game law.

Fortunately for Shroud of the Avatar fans, it looks as though Portalarium is putting some thought into its undead creations. The shambling corpses will not only pose an immediate threat to survival but also surprise players with an infectious zombie plague that will require medical attention afterward. If a player waits too long, then she will die and see her avatar join the zombie ranks.

The most recent newsletter isn’t only about zombies, of course. Portalarium is hosting a summer sale during which the studio will give $10 in store credit to anyone who buys $10 or more in digital goods. The studio also showed screens of the new Solace Forest, discussed Release 18 in review, and teased new tools for player-created quests.

Rustybladez Yeah, it’s not very hospitable to new players.  They’ve said they plan on writing a much better new user tutorial, but don’t hold your breath for that.  Those kinds of things usually come last.  For now, you should hit up YouTube for some new player guides.  There’s actually tons of things to do right now, although it’s not a very polished experience.  But don’t expect much handholding, even with the final game.

That’s nice. I install shroud, see my character got wiped do the starter quest again, spend 15-20 minutes looking for anything to do then log off in frustration. Uninstall. Waste of cash thus far – top to bottom.
Ultima was easy – the character moved in a grid so there was a chance of stumbling on whatever one was looking. The antique method do not work well at all in 3-space.
The dump text into a text box is pointless since the useful bits can be clicked on for instant info so the dump npc chat dialog is a major detractor.
I haven’t been able to find anything to do to even get a level. I don’t want to spend hours learning an obtuse and archaic method of gameplay. As you can tell the game is quite hospitable to new players.

Vhalen They actually test this plague mechanic many months ago, and yeah it did piss off quite a few players since there was no way to cure it except to die.  Thankfully, there will be a cure for it this time.
