Rush of Heroes imports chart-topping Asian mobile MMO

One of the biggest Asian mobile MMOs is looking to see whether it can replicate its success in the North American market. I Am MT2, which has topped the charts in Taiwan and South Korea and is based on a Chinese animated TV show, is now available globally on Google Play as Rush of Heroes.

Rush of Heroes is an MMO-lite that offers an astounding array of activities behind its cutsey facade. The free-to-play title includes 40 heroes, several dungeon runs, over 150 questing zones, and even side occupations like fishing and mining. It’s currently available only on Android devices.

You can watch the launch trailer for Rush of Heroes after the break!

While waiting for this game to come out, we actually got probably 10 clones of it released in the US already.  The game has been cloned a lot and all the clones got here first.

It’s a shame that they get away with calling these games MMOs.  You can usually chat with people who are online, and then interact with copies of their party in PvP where their party is auto controlled by the game, exchange a few points with people, that’s usually the extent of it.  You’re not running around in some open world or anything with other people, you barely play the game at all.  You don’t even have to, you can turn it on auto and then just press buttons to enter the stage and let it do the rest.  Even if you do want to control it you just get to decide when the specials fire off and that’s about it.

We’ve been flooded with these games like crazy lately.  It’s nice and all if this one was one of the first and the one they all cloned (was it?  I don’t even know because there are so many) but we’ve got so many of them now that it’s not going to make much of a splash.

I’m a big defender and player of mobile, but these games are NOT MMOs.  Putting a chat room in your game to make it feel as if you’re online with other people doesn’t make it an online game.  It has “social aspects” the way Facebook games did when your friends weren’t online but to call it an MMO is going too far I think.

I am MT2 ? That sounds like a disturbingly honest title for something like this. ;)

Rush of Heroes is NOT an MMO, it is a team battler like Heroes Charge, Puzzle & Dragons and countless other mobile games.

You dont even really “play” mobile games like this. You click a button to start, sit back and watch as it plays itself, and then manage the aftermath in a time limited (buy gems to speed things up!), resource limited (by more gems to get more resources!) system.

Things like this are a poison to the gaming industry, and do nothing to promote actual decent games from getting made.
