World of Warplanes is bringing back lethal crits

Wargaming’s latest World of Warplanes dev blog announces the return of lethal critical damage situations. Breaking a wing or a tail off of an enemy aircraft with a well-placed shot was “fun and rewarding,” according to the blog. It was also a high-skill endeavor, which left newbs wanting and adversely affected balance.

The new crit system, which debuts “this Autumn,” will see critical hits become “much more common” than they are right now, which will enable a single good shot to turn the tables in a dogfight. Different aircraft will have different susceptibility to critical damage, though Wargaming cautions that the changes are “a work in progress.”

ApathyCurve Once/if they start hosting mixed battles I’m sure a lot of tankers will hop in the cockpit. WoWP was just released at a bad time since WT already had a large following while WoWP was still in development.

I’m actually surprised to hear they removed it to begin with. I just never liked Wargamings vehicle damage models. When I pump your wing full of 20mm high explosive shells, I want to see it rip off, not watch your HP bar drop a few bumps!

I loved this game, it’s gorgeous, exciting, and fun.  I honestly don’t understand what people don’t like about it.   But yes very sad, nobody is playing it.

As truly awful as this game is, I’m astounded Wargaming are still propping it up.  What’s the “community” down to now?  Five hundred?  On the flip side, they really are doing WoWS correctly.  They’ve pretty much nailed the gameplay and progression formula which made WoT so addictive and translated it onto the water.  They also appear to be listening to their testers, which is quite refreshing after the disaster of WoWP.
