Destiny sells DLC extras separately, prepares promotion with Red Bull

While Bungie is putting out one Destiny public relations fire, another one springs up behind it.

The studio addressed its recent bungling of The Taken King DLC pricing and packaging in its weekly update yesterday, saying that it will make the extra digital content from the DLC available for $20 for those who already have the game and offer VIP rewards.

Creative Director Luke Smith also apologized for his previous interview on the DLC, saying, “I’m sorry. My words made it sound as if Bungie doesn’t care about their most loyal fans. We do care. We are listening. And we will make it right.”

Meanwhile, a leaked Bungie/Red Bull promotion revealed that customers who buy the energy drink next month will gain access to an XP boost and exclusive Taken King quest. The information sent to 7-Eleven stores says that “Destiny consumers are used to paying a premium for DLC similar to this quest.”

As fans are reacting to that news, another video game is jumping on the bandwagon (and tweaking Bungie’s nose) by offering a tongue-in-cheek drink-related promotion. Dying Light says that if players take a pictureof themselves drinking water, then they’ll receive a weapon docket in the game.

Speaking from personal experience, energy drinks are good for one thing:  fooling your boss into believing you are awake in the morning at work, after an all night gaming session left you with 2hrs sleep.
They make your eyes open and move your arms/fingers. Precision is irrelevant.
The sponsorship makes sense.

I have fun playing this game. Have seen drink promotions in the past.
However…
I’m not naive, I understand we are all just customers, for the most part. But, this just stings a bit.
Activision has ruined Blizzard and Bungie. Two beacons of light, in the not so distant past.
F-em.

Dope_Danny Right, It just seems like everything they do is super slimey and super money grubbie. I even liked the game at first when it came out, and spent plenty of time enjoying it! The first few content drops were over priced, and I rolled my eyes, but whatever… It just keeps continuing though.

Just the fact that they’re even selling out for a friggin Red Bull marketing tie in, is just… lame, and weird.

kgptzac Something happened around the turn of the century and game devs became PR politicians in all but name.
