Destiny sells DLC extras separately, prepares promotion with Red Bull

While Bungie is putting out one Destiny public relations fire, another one springs up behind it.

The studio addressed its recent bungling of The Taken King DLC pricing and packaging in its weekly update yesterday, saying that it will make the extra digital content from the DLC available for $20 for those who already have the game and offer VIP rewards.

Creative Director Luke Smith also apologized for his previous interview on the DLC, saying, “I’m sorry. My words made it sound as if Bungie doesn’t care about their most loyal fans. We do care. We are listening. And we will make it right.”

Meanwhile, a leaked Bungie/Red Bull promotion revealed that customers who buy the energy drink next month will gain access to an XP boost and exclusive Taken King quest. The information sent to 7-Eleven stores says that “Destiny consumers are used to paying a premium for DLC similar to this quest.”

As fans are reacting to that news, another video game is jumping on the bandwagon (and tweaking Bungie’s nose) by offering a tongue-in-cheek drink-related promotion. Dying Light says that if players take a pictureof themselves drinking water, then they’ll receive a weapon docket in the game.
