The Daily Grind: Do you read MMO dev blogs?

76

I read a lot of dev blogs. It kind of goes with the territory, since part of this job entails picking through studio press releases and website updates and separating the fluff from the stuff that makes for interesting news posts.

If it weren’t for this job, though, I probably wouldn’t read them. I prefer to just explore stuff on my own in a given game, rather than have most of the changes spelled out for me in a bullet-point list. It also probably helps that I’m not much of a min-maxer, so buffs and nerfs normally don’t even register on my radar.

What about you, MOP readers? Do you read dev blogs? Why or why not?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Is this a hint I should write for my professional blog more often? :P

I’ve been thinking of writing a new series of posts, though….

I read RIFT’s almost all of the time. The Secret World much of the time. SWTOR some of the time. The rest is incidental.

For convenience sake I prefer video dev blobs or livestreams.

Gibbins Rozyn I’m not into dinosaurs or survival games, so it’s not my jam, but I’m glad an EA survival game is finally working out for fans of the genre. Maybe if the hype keeps up at release I’ll take it more seriously.

I tend to read more than I play, most of the time. That extends beyond MMOs to encompass League of Legends, as well.

Read bits and bobs. APBs one which was surprisingly thorough at times and got a good insignlht into the bugs and why some of the systems in place were flawed.
And i used to check out GW2 after they would make an announcement about a change but that petered off when you saw some of the dev ideas were countering what eventually appdared in game.
