World of Warcraft offers a slew of activities in July

22

With summer in full swing and plenty of people out of school and enjoying vacations, World of Warcraft figures that it had better darn well entertain those who will be playing the game in July.

The fantasy title put up a list of its July events, including the return of the Midsummer Fire Festival and Darkmoon Faire, the July 4th fireworks, and the start of Warlords PvP Season 2, which not coincidentally is today. Every weekend will continue to feature post-Patch 6.3 bonus events, such as the Wrath of the Lich King timewalking dungeons from July 17th through the 20th.

Speaking of timewalking, Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas spent part of a new interview talking about how the team is planning to add Cataclysm dungeons to the event rotation. He also discussed the new Hellfire Citadel raid and mentioned that there are indeed legendary rings that can be obtained by beating end boss Archimonde.

You can watch Hazzikostas’ full interview after the jump.

I just returned after an, oh, 4-6 month absence, and I’m having a blast!  No other game has such a living world feel to it, and a boatload of content to boot.

It says nothing about the genre as a whole.
What it SAYS is that WoW is sold in China, where other Western MMOs are not.
Subtract out the Chinese population and you’ve got yourself another MMO with +/- two million players.

I don’t think there’s all that much playerbase left to be split.
Blizz’ last population quote was seven million, with almost five of those seven located in China.
Not all that many ways you can slice and dice 750k-1M North American players before you’ve diminished your returns … unless a WoW2 would bring millions upon millions of players back into the game, that is.

Serrenity Bereman99 Men_inTightsToo and yet……still the biggest dog in the fight that is the mmo genre. What does that say about the genre as a whole?

Serrenity anatheod I can’t help but think Blizzard would be shooting themselves in the foot to do such a dramatic split in playerbase.

Serrenity anatheod Wishful thinking imo. They have HOTS, Hearthstone and Overwatch on the brain and nothing else.

D3 was a financial success but a failure to most fans of the franchise, ditto with SC and WoW pays the bills.

Thats it. Thats Blizzard right now.
