Trion: Devilian has ‘all the features of your dream ARPG’

Now that Trion’s newest MMO import is no longer cloaked in secrecy, the Devilian team is excited to get out there and talk about the game.

Trion Worlds Producer Andrew Sipotz posted a welcome letter to the community today, laying out what he thinks will hook players on this title: “Simply put, this is the ARPG-MMO that we ourselves want to play. Imagine all the features your dream ARPG has: Devilian has them. Offering massive 20 vs. 20 PvP battlegrounds, thrilling open-world contested bosses, and guild alliances and wars, this really is the ARPG-MMO we (and you!) have been wanting.”

Sipotz went on to discuss testing plans (although no dates as of yet), saying that Devilian will be localized in English, French, and German. He also invited fans to come hang out on the official forums and meet the Trion dev team that’s handling the operation.

TitianHero AdeptusEnginus Uhm…I fail to see your point here. Yeah, there’s tons of gamble boxes, but they aren’t exactly necessary. Most of what comes out of them is cosmetic, and the stuff that isn’t come from boxes that are attained via gameplay anyway. The rest of the stuff can all be bought with cubits which the game quite literally throws at you. Simply filling the bar daily nets you 4500 a week, and that’s not even counting the some 15k+ you get for finishing the Golden Thread. Kids without disposable incomes won’t exactly feel a compulsive need to spend money when they’ve probably unlocked all the classes/mount/whatever they wanted before the point they’re not getting gratuitous amounts of cubits thrown directly at their face on a minutely basis.

Further, things like costumes and mounts are tradable between players, so there’s a player-economy built around trading Flux for goods which adds further merit to the “just get it via gameplay if you don’t want to pay” route.

AdeptusEnginus the monatizatrion scheme of trove isnt fair at all when you realize that the target audience for that game is tweens and teens who couldnt possibly afford to constantly buy gamble boxes with their allowance money. Trove is disgusting, it’s training little kids to be cash shop addicts.

To each his own, I guess. And, I can concede your point on Allods I guess. See Internet, two people can disagree and still walk away like gentlemen. Heh.

Nate Woodard AdeptusEnginus Ceder Well I’mma have to dispute you on two points to that end.

To start, Trove is not a Minecraft Clone. I still don’t understand why people make that comparison, and it tells me they just haven’t played or even really looked at the game. SkySaga, Creativerse, games of that sort are Minecraft Clones. Trove is a Cube World clone with building in it which bares next to no resemblance to the complexity of the system in Minecraft; IE, it feels like a building system Cube World would have worked in had that game ever been bloody finished. It’s an important distinction to make because…well, NOTHING holds up to Minecraft as a raw building game thanks to it’s modability. If the primary focus of Trove was construction, it would be superior to vanilla Minecraft from a purely aesthetic standpoint and vastly, vastly, inferior to modded Minecraft in pretty much any way.
Second point is Allods, because I’m just going to have to retort this one. I was one of the people who was SUPER psyched up for Allods when it was coming out, and I played it during the initial launch rush before everyone caught wind of the cash shop’s nonsense.
The problem with Allods has nothing to do with G-Potato as much as it would be nice to say that. Yes, they were shit. Yes, they ruined the game’s reputation. No, the game’s major problems have not improved any under Mail.RU. The Cash Shop is still overwhelmingly intrusive and the entire thing reeks horribly of P2W to this day, with the exception of the subscription server which is neigh a wasteland in and of itself. The reputation is not what is sinking that game anymore; a poor launch can be overcome if it’s problems are fixed and it continues to improve. Prime example would be Marvel Heroes or, if you want a more extreme one, FFXIV. Allods is in a spiral because in SPITE of being returned to Mail.RU, it is still a crappy game thanks to it’s monatization scheme.

Other than that, you’re for the most part spot on except for with Diablo > Devilian, which may be spot on but we can’t rightly say until it is here and we can try it ourselves, but that really doesn’t effect me. I guess it’s just that I don’t care about the personal experiences of other people when it comes to most MMOs, I like to test the waters myself. To me, it isn’t 1 in 4, it’s 1 in 2, because RIFT was the only one I ever really tried and didn’t like. I’ll obviously take consumer feedback into account, but I won’t let the overall opinion mandate my own.

AdeptusEnginus Ceder No flames on my end, but from what I’ve just read, you’ve had a one in four success rate with Trion.  I’d call that pretty bad.  And I don’t think you can slide with saying you saw how terrible AA was gonna be so you didn’t bother.  Trion still endorsed it.  They put their name on it, so it’s their game in a manor of speaking.

To reinforce my last claim, think about Allods Online.  That game’s name has been dragged through the mud because of what G-Potato did to it.  It’s now back in the hands of Mail.RU the original publisher and people are still hesitant to play the game because they have a bad tasted in their mouth from G-Potato’s nonsense.

Like I said, no hate or flames or anything like that on my end.  And I’m glad you like Trove.  I, personally will never touch anything Trion does ever again, but I do understand where you’re coming from.  To be honest, I don’t know why I did to start with.  Everything they’ve ever released has been something that closely matches another extremely popular title.

WoW > Rift
Minecraft > Trove
Planetside 2 > Defiance(And the fact that they tried to make this an action MMO FPS is laughable)
Diablo > Devil something or other

I don’t know.. I just kinda see a pattern here.  People won’t agree with me on this, but it’s just what I see.

Ceder AdeptusEnginus Well, the thing is, I didn’t get burned by Archage. I never tried it. I saw the warning signs in the other incarnations of the game and came to assume that it would suffer from severe p2w regardless of Trion. I never played Defiance, the closest I got was when it was still B2P and attempting to install it via Steam for a free weekend resulted in my PC blue-screening. I played RIFT when it first came out and unsubbed after the first month or so, and since then the only real interactions I’ve had with them is Trove, which I enjoy immensely as a fun little pointless side game.
In other words, I’m one of the breed who has only really had positive interactions with Trion, so while I’m well aware of what they’re capable of, I don’t have the jaded ex-lover syndrome that folk who where hyped for Archage now display. Maybe that’ll change in time, it’s totally possible they’ll find the means to ruin Trove or this Devilian game will be an utter P2W flop, but until that happens, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt, since I have no real reason not to.

Sorry but Trion has lost all credibility for me : this company demonstrated twice (in AA and in Rift) exceptional skills in treating players like shit.

So, for me, anything Trion is just nightmare and I will never trust them again.
