World of Warships’ open beta launches today

Let the naval battles commence: World of Warships soft launches today! Above and beyond throwing open the beta doors to one and all, the game is introducing brand-new features too. Players can now captain historical ships from the Soviet and UK nations as well as from American and Japan in both the game’s PvE mode and 12v12 PvP matches. Additionally, the new signal flag customization system allows players to not only visibly display battle achievements on their ships but accrue special bonuses; each flag offers different buffs, such as increasing vessel speed, granting extra credits for a battle, increasing the experience points gained in combat, and more.

For those who have purchased pre-order packages, Wargaming is also crediting those to players. Any closed beta testers who used their bundles during the previous testing phase are credited them again. Check out the new trailer below!

Landari_Omega DamnDirtyApe PawnInTheGame Don’t forget that the dev’s are gods. They can make the game work if they want to. I can think of several ways: maybe the battle objectives (such as capturing zones) can only be accomplished in by ships and not by subs; or players who are in aircraft could detect subs when they fly over them and reveal them to friendly ships; etc.

I admit I’m bias towards naval games and ships in general, but this game is good for a quick PVP fix, and the ships are beautifully modeled

tobascodagama I used to be a huge warthunder fan. Now however between Russian planes insta poping bombers at 1km with 20mm and 47mm guns, and all the aimbots……sigh.

PawnInTheGame They need to add other nations into the ground battles first.. dont think we will be seeing any naval stuff from them for quite some time.

melissamcdon as others have said some of the early tier ships are from the early 1900s, but the game is designed around WWII so the ships usually get the upgrades they had available to them as unlocks.

Darthbawl DoctorOverlord I played some while in St. Petersburg. The ship I really liked, however, is a T5 I believe, so I probably won’t be able to stream that one!

melissamcdon Basically starting with pre-Dreadnaught designs ~1900 or so, then through WWII. They haven’t added a British or German tech tree yet, though. There’s one Royal Navy ship as a Premium, the Warspite.

DamnDirtyApe PawnInTheGame Submarines would be amazing, but Wargaming was right when they said it would ruin game balance. Nobody would use surface vessels if the entire enemy team was in subs.
