WRUP: Cool guys don’t look at fireworks edition

As we all know, cool guys don’t look at explosions (they blow things up and just walk away). This is true as few things in life are. We also are all aware that fireworks are just particularly small and colorful explosions which are at least ostensibly under the control of operators. Thus, we can conclude that it’s more cool to go to a fireworks show and then not look at those boring explosions for even a minute.

I suppose not going at all would be a faster and cheaper solution, but this way you can specifically not look at the explosions, then explain why you’re not looking while trying not to sound like some kind of detonation hipster. And… actually, now that I type all of that out, it seems like it might be easier to just check out our entries for this week’s entry of What Are You Playing along with some of our Patrons, then let us know what you’re up to in the comments. Seriously, that makes you automatically cool.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’ll probably try to score some login time with Marvel Heroes. I’ve got to get my free (insert whatever MH is giving away this time).

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): There are options other than Final Fantasy XIV right now? Why would you do that to yourself?

Jef Reahard (@jefreahard): I’m still playing ARK: Survival Evolved and some single-player stuff. I resubbed to Star Wars: The Old Republic, too, because Star Wars makes me throw money at things even if I dislike them.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I didn’t get as much WildStar time this past week as I would have liked, so I’m going to be gunning to get some adventures in there. I also have an itch to get some Trove in with the upcoming launch and all, so that’s getting reinstalled on my machine.

Larry Everett (@Shaddoe, blog): I do want to finish up leveling my Jedi Guardian in Star Wars: The Old Republic, but at the same time, I don’t want to burn myself out before the expansion hits. Then of course, I have my raid on Sunday that I will be livestreaming on my Twitch channel at about 7 p.m. EDT. I also downloaded DC Universe Online again. I have no idea why, but I love going back to that game every once in a while just to play through some of the beginning levels.

Pierre: Hello Massively Overpowered readers! Sorry for not contributing to WRUP these last weeks, but I’ve been away from home and gaming during the month of June. Thus, I have a lot of catching up to do; I have to check this new Final Fantasy XIV expansion I just bought, and I hear it’s a good one. That’s all for MMOs this weekend, but I’ve been playing old adventure games for a few weeks now and I’m going through the Dracula trilogy I bought on GOG. I have finished the first episode (it was average at best), and I just started the second (it seems better).

KythasWraith: I thought about telling all of you I would play something other than Heavensward this weekend, but I realized I would be lying. Between having a Machinist to level and grabbing the item level 170 gear and the upgrade items for it from hunts, I will be busy. On Tuesday we should be getting the new Alexander raid (barring any catastrophes) and I want to be ready. I should probably wait until I’m home playing with my new 4K display and dual 980Ti cards with functional internet, but a man can dream.

Jagmas (@jagmas, blog): While I am still very satisfied with playing Ark: Survival Evolved (as my sleep deprived body can attest to) there’s a couple of games I may spend some time on during the holiday weekend. Up first would be World of Warships which is sailing into open beta and should be even more fun now that everyone can give it a try. And even though I am not the biggest PVP fan, thanks to Bwana on Twitch the second game I really want to play this weekend is Albion Online because there seems to be a lot more going on than in game just PVP. I just have to pony up for the founder’s pack!

Lisa/Liandreth: I’ll be playing ARK, if the kidlet lets me. Still trying to amass my army of dodos. May or may not log into World of Warcraft. Working on my dailies with hubs to open up flying in Draenor.

Your turn!

No fireworks here. There is a world outside America, you know. Thunderstorms interefered with my internet connection while trying to play last night, though. I suppose thunder and lightning are a bit like fireworks.

Spent the evening tonight killing plague event world bosses with the guildies, until everybody who wanted the pet drop had got the pet drop. Then it was off to kill enemy commanders (lumme! I’m PVP flagged, help!)  to get stuff to expand the guild ship. All good fun.

cheesybites76 anatheod HotS and HS have larger playerbases, bring more money to the table and cost much less to balance and to bring new content. Same wil be for Overwatch. I dont think Blizz even cares for the MMO market anymore. They will still pump money into it but i dont expect anything groundbreaking.

Thanks to MOP for throwing up the ARK server, which is where I will be most for the weekend adding more spikes to Fort Thorn.  Other than that I plan to spend a bit of time being all nautical in World of Warships which is turning out to be a lot of fun and maybe a bit of ESO to pick up my campaign rewards.

anatheod Oh it’s still their flagship, especially since it still has more players than any other five MMOs combined.  But yeah, even though I left the game before the launch of WoD, this 6.2 patch seems to be an awful letdown for a lot of players.  That being said, though, there are waaaaay too many vets out there (at least as of now) who aren’t going to stop subbing simply because they have so much time invested in the game.  As for me, even though I played since 2007, I won’t be returning.  And I most certainly am not looking forward to their next xpac, lol.

Guild Wars 1 for me, as it has been for several months now; and no, not just for the Dragon Festival.  As a matter of fact, I haven’t touched it this year.  I am just happy that the game is still running and that my alliance is still active enough for me to continue to log in!
Sorry, but this is a time in my life in which I am horrifically disappointed in most MMO offerings.  I’m old and wise enough now to stop waiting for the “next big thing” because the past five years or so have shown me that most of them have failed to deliver.
So yeah, it’s Gw 1 and my Xbox 1, lol.

Koshelkin I had a ton of problems just getting the game to install correctly. Once I finally got it installed and got past character creation, which was rather impressive, I was stuck at a black screen. If you hit ESC to skip, like it says on the screen, it would show you the character select screen and not do anything. After fighting with that trying to figure out why the cut scene wouldn’t load or let me skip to actually enter the game, I uninstalled it. I really wanted to play it but I got fed up constantly having to trouble shoot little issues.

Yeah, the attempt at plot is revolting … I’m guessing that the US publisher ran out of money before they could finish.

kinda wish they would have just left the Korean VO in it.

World of Warships and FFXIV. I intend to clear the 2.55 MSQ this weekend so I can at least go to Ishgard.

D&D group’s playing the “forum RP game” this weekend as we have americans doing the american thing, and we have a major plot point underway that needs to involve everyone with a lot of talking and no fighting… perfect spot for the forums!

Being Canadian, I generally don’t get in on 4th of July stuff, but I did buy myself a 4th of July gift, given that I’ve been part of the voice bugging Gazillion for this for awhile now, so, expensive special edition or not, I had to put my money where my mouth is.  Happy 4th of July, Cap!
