Antmen are hot properties this July, or so we heard. Alas, there are not many places that you can explore what life would be like as an ant adventurer — unless, of course, you decided to pick up The Hammers End.
Antman is one of six quirky races that exist in this indie title, along with other luminaries such as Fishman and Brownie. This is “the best hangout since the dawn of MMORPGs,” boast the developers, promising a return to the feel of old-school games. It’s a decidedly low-fidelity MMO that has potential charm as you take on the role of a small adventurer in the larger world of nature.
The Hammers End is subscription-only, requiring a $15/month access fee after a free trial. It offers a full PvE and PvP world with non-instanced dungeons, and all the Papyrus font you could ask for. Check out the following overview video to get a quick feel for The Hammers End’s style and features!

CrowingOne Ok; VERY brief update. Â Downloaded the game last night which took all of 5 minutes, and the log in process is seamless. Â I chose to make a Burwood (Squirrelish?) Shadowknight. Â The character options for looks are limited, but are there and for the Burwood was longer ears/fur color. Â Immediately upon logging in.. I received a guild invite. Â Total surprise! Was expecting the game to be empty and the last thing I was expecting was a guild invite. haha
The person who invited me was a level 50 Brownie and had been playing for 6 months. Â According to them the game has a small population, but they had noticed it growing over the time they had played. Â I had gotten to level 6 before logging. Â As far as questing goes; it is pretty straight forward. Â Kill x of these, gather x of this. Â Combat is basic. Â Press button and do action; the physical animation for attacking is also basic. Â No fancy flips or anything; although the person who guilded me made me a sword and a totem (off hand object) and attacking with the sword I did a half-spin type of deal; pretty fancy no? Â I am not 100% sure how skills work; but upon logging in my bar was filled with stuff to use. Â One was a basic attack, the other a spamable life tap, I got a battle pet, mez, etc. Â I do not know if you can earn new ones yet.
As far as end game goes; I asked the person who had been playing 6 months and they said the game has quite a decent end game ranging from Advanced Paths (which all your exp goes to once your 50), dungeons, epic quests, repeatable quests; sounded pretty decent I guess.Â
Graphics are nostalgic.  If you ever played EQ or old DAoC than these graphics should feel like home.  They don’t bother me at all. Â
Albeit a basic beginning review; once I get more play time I will add more. :)
“Water Pet” lol.
squidgod2000 I like that one of their features is ‘a modern and clean user interface.’
With papyrus.
RamsayIV I am thinking of trying it out too.
Do these things spawn randomly?
Just from watching a gameplay video… It seems to have that original everquest feel. Im going to try this.
squidgod2000 I was about to go off about Papyrus, but this works too.
Those visuals, so shiny… The UI is deceiving and made it look promising, then wandering around, not seeing any mobs, the sheer boringness in a nice environment with unique races makes me sad that it’s not a better game(without playing it at least)
Only PvP server is online.
Looks promising ^^
