Betawatch: July 10th, 2015

Good luck.

Star Citizen managed to seize everyone’s attention this week. Was it the opening of a new office for the game’s development studio? The latest update from the studio in the wake of delay announcements? Or was it the fact that there’s no way to combine the terms “Derek Smart” and “Star Citizen” in a topic without people paying attention? The world may never know, but my money’s on the last point.

It was a quiet week for betas otherwise, but that doesn’t mean nothing happened. Examples? Well…

And, you know, there’s a whole list of game in testing past the break down there. See something missing or with an inaccurate status? Let us know, dear readers! That’s what the comments are for.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed.

Haven’t had a chance to try star citizen yet so I was comparing it to minecraft meets eve especially with all the mining but yeah. I just wish massively cared about more about inde developers. Beta watch these days just seems like a summary of whatever press releases the big guys sent them

Since Massively still don’t care about Star Made  I’ll try to keep info fresh. The game’s latest update has reworked the explosions and pulse lazer mechanics and made some server side improvements. AI now targets specific blocks instead of a ships centre of mass. A new Build inhibitor tool has been added witch can disable building within a 32 block radius. Text boxes have had some improvements and now come in multiple sizes. Some more textures have been updated and they have thrown in a handy bath of bug fixes too. There was also a mention of astronauts having more tools to come down the line.

The game is still Open Alpha and free to download from there website.
