RIFT patch 3.3 is live with extra nightmares

17

You don’t have to wait until Halloween for RIFT to break out the heebie-jeebies, as its Waking Nightmares update went live yesterday, though it was not without its problems. A number of issues caused multiple outages yesterday, including a guild bug and unrelated exploits that caused Trion to keep the servers down most of the afternoon and evening.

Community Manager Ocho promised players compensation for the downtime: “As a thank you, from the time RIFT is again available we’ll turn on 50% Bonus Experience (including PA Experience), Favor, and Prestige through Sunday July 19 at 11:59 PM Pacific.”

Patch 3.3 represents a wealth of content that could keep RIFT players busy over the remainder of the summer. It includes Act One of the nightmare saga questline, planar crafting rifts, a Tarken Glacier instant adventure, wardrobe enhancements, and an introductory version of the Gilded Prophecy sliver. Another nice change is that souls can be reset within the soul tree window, offering instant convenience to build modifications.

There’s a lot to dig through with the patch notes, so get reading — and get updating!

The “new profession” that said by patch notes is a new subsystem of all professions. Trion wrote a “new profession” on the forums but we need to figure out in the game that “new” are a lot of new recipes to acquire with craft tokens (more grind, right?), and the new crafting gear is not so good than expert gear. Tarken Glacier IA didnt work till yesterday and the new hunting rift is another grind mechanism (not for my tast).
Well.. now we can upgrade Marauder to Frenetic (Tier 1), it is nice that i do a lot of warfront. And I dont have nothing against the lore. It is great, even though I have not completed yet.

Coldrun_MN Sort of, yeah. There’s prelude content in Storm Legion patches: a Realm of Twisted Dreams dungeon, bits in the Air Saga questline, an underwater quest hub in Ember Isle, and a Nightmare Coast short questline and dungeon in Shimmersand. A quest hub in Moonshade Highlands may at least be partially included in this as well. This all adds up as an overall threat from a being called Lord Arak (and more), who has been knowing the goings on in Telara (knowing peoples’ nightmares) and is taking his chance to strike and spread his power to other planes (ours).

Basically Classic Rift was: We gotta stop these planar invasions from destroying our home!
Storm Legion was: We gotta stop these greater planar invasions from destroying our planet!
And Nightmare Tide is: We can’t stop this by just staying on Telara, we gotta move into the planes!

There’s not just Lord Arak, but the Bloodfire Army (the Plane of Fire’s invasion, post-Maelforge), cosmic titans, a mysterious 6th Vigil goddess emerging (but hinted since Dendrome zone or maybe earlier), and more.

These many threats (just with most focus on Lord Arak, and he may end up being the final boss of the expansion Tier 3 raiding itself) equal an expansion that may be the most about the planar threats than ever. If we don’t stop them, they won’t just invade Mathosia, but instead pretty quickly overwhelm all of Telara faster than any one of the Blood Storm dragons themselves.

In the meantime, this expansion has also been the most about making planar FRIENDS and ALLIES. This has been a smaller thing since Classic Rift (anyone remember Deeps?), but has never been a thematic focus. But in the Plane of Water, we meet several factions, some of new but some of old (Eth planar explorers) races, who represent the Ascended/Guardians/Defiant expanding their influence beyond their home plane. Whether they’re avatars of good dreams (the Onir), the more peaceful aquatic denizens (the Atrigarians) or the resilient fighters for the better side of the whole Plane of Water (the Pelagic Order), etc, there are allies to be made in the Plane of Water, as we vanquish Fire invaders evaporating the seas, Nightmares that twist reality to the point of spreading their own Nightmare Rifts on Telara, and start to more substantially learn about the bigger picture about the Ascended and their supposed fate.

Midgetsnowman Coldrun_MN I think Akylios still had his own sort of specific corruption that make him as part of the Blood Storm. And I dunno if this is outdated/retconned lore, but there’s also bits about him being like a ‘normal’ dragon (whereever they come from) but being twisted by Water/Madness/EvilWater energy to become the Akylios, the ‘akvan'(?) we raid against.
Still an avatar of the darkest energies of Water, insanity.

Luckinrio Huh? There’s no new profession, just more added stuff to existing ones. There’s a lot of reasons for 3.3. Nightmare Saga questline. Wrapping up more endgame crafting/gathering (planar crafting rifts). More Tier 2 raiding (albeit a recycled instance). Tarken Glacier IAs. Yeah sure, it is a lot of ‘filler’ without much ‘feature’, but for me, Nightmare Saga is all I need for a patch.

3.4 or 3.5 latest will have a new zone, new dungeon, maybe that whole new calling, and maybe more. Look forward to that.

Time for Nightmare Saga! Funny so far, but I heard that the later act(s) get more serious and lore-filled.

Luckinrio Planar Crafting isn’t a new profession, but an extension of the current ones.

Dread1313 Just to clear this up, it absolutely stacks with Patron.

Dread1313 It’s supposed to stack, so I assume that they’re either going to fix it, or give patrons some extra compensation.

ZenDadaist apparently nothing. Thats what I got. GG for supporting a game with real money, F2P guys win again it seems.

The +50% they gave as a “we’re sorry for the downtime” does NOT stack with Patron status. I am at 140% right now (the same I was before the patch as a patron…) and not getting any bonuses, so patrons get jack.
