Trion races to fix Trove server issues, offers compensation

23

Ever since launching earlier this month, Trove has become somewhat of a sleeper hit in the MMO community and enjoyed crowds flocking to its pixelated lands. But with great popularity comes great strain on the servers, Uncle Ben once said, and that’s been troublesome for both the Trion Worlds team and players.

Hardware issues forced Trion to lock and restart the servers on Friday in order to deal with “severe latency.” On Saturday, the team tracked down a performance-hampering bug and brought the servers down to apply a hotfix. No sooner was the hotfix patched in than the authentication servers crashed on Saturday evening.

Trion has also sent out emails offering compensation in the form of a free class and three days of patron subscription to players affected by heavy queues since the launch. You can read the full notice after the break.

As you might be aware, we had an overwhelming response to the launch of Trove. (It overwhelmed us personally and emotionally, and it also overwhelmed our servers!)

We know you just want to play our game and that you put up with a lot in order to be able to get in. We appreciate that, and wanted to let you know that since launch we’ve increased our player capacity 400%. This puts us well above our peak usage times, with room to spare.

Now that things are more stable, and more playable, we wanted to give you all a little something as thanks for bearing with us. These should show up in game in the next 24 hours, or so:

1 Free Class: You’ll get a non-tradable Class Coin which is good for any current or future Class unlock.

Patron Time: You’ll get 3 days of Patron Time, as well as 3 additional days if you’ve made a real-money purchase. Anyone with active Patron benefits will have the extra days added to your total time.

Thanks again for playing Trove. We’ll see you in-game!

We’ll be keeping an eye on the situation and updating this post as it develops.

Servers are expensive.  Installing them takes time.  These facts are obvious and well known.  I understand the impatience, I don’t understand the anger.

Does Trove allow movement binding to arrow keys?  I had chipped in early on when Trove was first announced but wife hated it because no directional key binding so we bailed.

Lol!  Are you guys starting to see a pattern here? Yes.  Yes you are.  Does Trion not do a Lessons Learned session internally after a launch?  Bet we see the same thing on Devilian.

Serrenity jauffins  This recent Kotaku post gives a great summary of events:

Serrenity jauffins I believe they updated Cube World in summer of 2013, and then again last summer, and that’s literally been it. I last played it a few years ago, before they added quests and that stuff. It was really fun and had tons of promise, so here’s hoping they some day finish it!

jauffins I was sad about that re: cube world.  It was really fun.  But it hasn’t been update in what, a year or two now?  something like that …

Your face when logging in at 1:00pm in the afternoon on a Monday results in a 30+ minute queue…

After Cube World basically fizzled out (or appears to have done so), I’m really excited about Trove. When I eventually get to play it, I hope I’m right. :)

Reading the comments on this post are really depressing.  It’s reinforcing the idea with me, “the only thing games like more than playing is hating games.”
Seriously, the amount of  negativity is ridiculous.

Anyway, I’m glad they increased server capacity.  I tried to log in a few times since launch with no success — the closest I got was #3500 in line to login.  So I opened up EQ2 and played around on my Troubadour instead.  Maybe I’ll try again tonight after work.
