Trion Worlds purges Glyph of third-party games

Trion Worlds is apparently getting out of the game distribution service, as least when it comes to games made by other studios.

Scott Hartsman has reportedly announced that “Trion has ended its experiment with selling single-player DRM-free games.” Anyone who has purchased non-Trion, single-player games through Trion’s custom Glyph platform should have received a letter explaining the changes and will continue to have access to purchased games, but the store has been wiped clean of all but Trion’s MMO for everyone else. Trove, RIFT, ArcheAge, Defiance, and the newly added Devilian are unaffected.

Glyph Account Support reminds gamers that they can port their Glyph games over to Steam.

breetoplay Salvatrix Archeage and Devilian are both 3rd party – neither is developed by Trion, Trion only serving as a regional publisher. Both those games are developed by completely independent studios, making them 3rd party games.
I have done enough 3rd party development myself, on the console side, to know that even when titles I worked on were exclusive to either Nintendo or Sony, those were clearly 3rd party titles because our studio was an independent developer.

Salvatrix Which third-party multiplayer games are currently in the Glyph store? I can’t find any. It’s just Trion’s five games.
Happy to update if I’m just missing something — hit the tip button (upper-right-hand corner link) to send us a correction note.

McGuffn As someone with over 150 games on Steam, I cringe at people unfairly bashing Origin. Granted I only own 9 games on Origin, but today, as of right now, it is an excellent service. The program itself is less troublesome than steam, uses less resources and Origin has a much better refund policy than steam’s new refund service (and origin has had it for a much longer period of time). The only critique I have of Origin is fewer sales and when they do have sales they are rarely as good as steam’s.

Nonetheless, the origin client is very clean in terms of performance & resource use (consumes much less RAM than steam.. which is rarely an issue, but steam occassionally has weird tendencies to spike CPU useage for short periods. I have yet to see Origin do this).

Origin had a rough start.. it was garbage when it launched (as someone who also had steam when it first launched with HAlf-Life 2 eons ago, Steam was the biggest pile of feces ever made for a long, long, long time. People forget how horrible it was for years). However, Origin has developed very nicely and is a solid service. Shame they have a smaller library of games and compete poorly on prices.

Midgetsnowman ArbsX Armsbend Rift is a p2w piece of junk. Trove is prbly Trion’s only good game & that is only doing good cause of the hype from CubeWorld.

Ceder Grimmtooth Having so many people playing that they need to keep adding servers is a good problem to have.
