The Daily Grind: Are you trying a different MMO this summer?

I find that summer is a great time of the year to let my gaming wanderlust run free, giving me permission to try new games and return to old ones that I haven’t seen in a while. I’ve been on a tear of samping different titles, from the obscure like Villagers & Heroes to well-known favorites like Star Wars: The Old Republic. I even got a bit of Final Fantasy XIV in there, although I concluded that it’s not the game for me.

Are you trying a different MMO this summer? Are you picking up one of the recently launched titles or returning to a comforting favorite? Let us know your plans!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

I tried Tera with the exp event and got a reaper to 65. I had some fun but it just didnt pull me in enough.
Right now my mmo time is all between 2 games both of which I recently picked back up, FFXIV and Marvel Hero’s. I played each for about a month or 2 previously but then didnt touch either for a year or 2. Now I’m back and having a blast on both. So not completley new but close enough for me to count.

I find that I’ve been playing Defiance and started playing TERA. Defiance is a pretty fun shooter, albeit a one-trick pony. Shoot all the things! TERA I am still kinda confused as to why I’m enjoying it as much as I am. I think because it hits a nostalgia spot for me, being an old vanilla WoW player. The mechanics and hub questing are very similar to WoW, but with more modern action combat and much prettier environments.

Eldevin.  The graphics are rather primitive and there’s no support for non-standard resolutions, (which should be possible since it’s now on a dedicated client instead of browser-based), but there is an interesting game hiding behind the ugly.  Makes me nostalgic for vanilla EQ, in fact.  Some people say it reminds them of Runequest, but I don’t see it. I hated RQ with a passion; Eldevin has a different feel for me, especially now that it’s got an “over-the-shoulder” third-person cam instead of the old screwy pseudo-isometric headache inducer like Path of Exile.  Now if they can just get a first-person view in, I’ll be even happier.

Skyforge, though I think it’s best as a secondary game than your main.

I’m still playing Neverwinter mostly at the moment, as I seem to be a total masochist.

Red Alert  Dookii Khorrax i see now and i agree why you have issues with that. It would have been way better if you as the player had the option to mix those parts like pants, gloves etc.

Star Forge and loving every second of it! I am not sure why that is. It is just scathing a itch till the expansion for SWTOR drops or WS goes F2P.

On the contrary, with the new progression server EQ2 is getting a good share of my limited time again.
ESO & TSW are the other two I like to spend some time in.

Well Wurm Online is always my staple when it comes to mmo’s, but I do play others on the side. My pic of the bunch at is ESO. I do like TERA’s combat the most, but eso’s is way up there. After trying Skyforge, I went back to ESO, but wanted to level up some lats is SWTOR but couldn’t handle the TAB targeting combat. Back to ESO.

TSW — loved going back but lack of good gear was a pin at Tokyo. Wildstar, nup did a touch of beta. FFXIV, Combat ><

ESO really suprises me. Blade and Soul looks nice, but the game is a year or two to late.

Always love visiting STO here and there.

My Goal is get my wife away from WoW and come play some ESO. As there is no way I’ll get here to play Wurm.
