The Stream Team: Getting back to a life of GTA Online crime

After dabbling in the darkside and experiencing a bit of evil, what’s a little crime? MassivelyOP’s MJ can’t resist the collection of cool cars in GTA Online, and in order to get them she needs to resort to some not-exactly-legal activities. She’s still got a good heart (she apologizes even as she’s stealing!), but how long before the corruption consumes her and she starts to revel in those misdeeds? Tune in live at 8:00 p.m. for her latest romp through the streets of Los Santos.

I’m surprised so many people torture themselves in public instances. My father and one of my friends got their first taste of a public instance last week after a disconnect when I wasn’t around to show them how to get back into their own private game. They were killed over and over by BigDickRick until they logged out and waited for me to get back. He wasn’t hacking or anything but that’s pretty much what you should expect any time you step into a public instance in GTA. Be ready to survive the trolls or turn on passive mode immediately if you want to live and even then you are not 100% safe. Sprinkle some hackers in there and you have a wonderful recipe for the turd sandwich that is public instances in GTA.

I remember how much of a blight hackers were on APB as well and that game didn’t give us the luxury of having our own private instances with friends only. Any shooter game has to deal with hackers it seems. I’m just glad I am able to say I haven’t had to deal with any by sticking to private instances in GTA.

Chuki792 you don’t even own it for PC, so how you can you claim to know anything about hackers in gta online?

Crueltylizer The hacking is real, if anyone tells you that they have never encountered a hacker….they are probably hacking themselves or they havnt played more than 30 min online.
It’s not as bad as it was two mnths ago, but it’s still going on on a large scale. Lemme know if you want some hacks, I’ll tell you where to get them,LOL.

I’m probably not the best person to respond to this, since I mostly stick to private instances, but no one else seems to be, so I’ll try.
In my limited experience I woulndn’t say it’s as bad as some people make out, they aren’t in literally every lobby, but if you play a lot of public games you will run into them. Though the problem is perhaps more griefers in general than just hackers. There’s plenty of cheese and imbalance in the game itself that people are more than happy to abuse. And there’s no shortage of non-hack ways to kill someone in safe mode if you know what you’re doing.
It isn’t quite true that they haven’t done anything to address the problem either, though things might have been better if they hadn’t. The Ill Gotten Gains Part 2 patch introduced real time encryption to the PC version to combat the hackers, but that resulted in some rather crippling performance issues for most users and broke mod support in the single player game. Beyond that, apparently they do do some banning, but they don’t seem to have a large enough CS team to really police things effectively.
Supposedly the patch to address the Ill Gotten Gains performance issues was maybe going to come out this past week, but I haven’t been on to see if they did get it out or not. Or if it even fixed much if it did release.
I’d at least wait to be sure the frame rate issues had been fixed before trying to jump into the game, things got majorly stuttery after IGG2. The game can be fun, but it’s better if you have friends to play with (heists can be a real bear to pug). It might have been nice if there’d been a Massively ‘crew’ (guild) so we could run a semi public private shard kind of like with Ark, but I guess the interest wasn’t there.

First I’ve heard about hackers… Thinking of getting this again for PC too.

Is it true that there is an extremely large base of hackers in GTA Online?

I’ve been wondering if it was worth buying for my PC, but it seems everybody says its not worth it because its filled with hackers and Rockstar is not doing anything to stop it.
