Guild Wars 2’s fractal dungeons to become more accessible and challenging

Guild Wars 2 is not planning to neglect its fractal content when Heart of Thorns comes out later this year. The fantasy MMO put up a dev blog today discussing how the team is simultaneously making the scaling group content easier to access and more challenging.

One big change with the expansion is that players will be able to choose a specific fractal to run from a list instead of a grouping of randomized dungeons. This will allow for shorter runs and players to get to learn certain fractals better. Another change is that fractals are going to scale up to 100, offering a harder difficulty level for seasoned groups. There will also be plenty of new rewards and achievements for running fractals, in case you needed incentive.

ArenaNet also outlined how it will be giving players a path to earning a legendary backpack in the expansion: “Just like existing legendary items, players will need to collect components from all over Tyria. To craft each stage of the precursor backpack, players will need to obtain a new salvage item from ascended equipment.”

Fractals just don’t cut it for me :( I really haven’t been able to get back into this game. It is great in so many aspects though

Kalamari anatheod It sounds like a great idea, but only if they somehow make it a requirement that people do the fractals with those instabilities.  They have several instabilities now that don’t work well with the zerker meta, so what do people do? Run only 40, 49 and 50, because they have the least impact on their play style.  

Unless Anet comes up with a way to combat that, I’m sure people will have a list of the quickest instabilities to dps through within a few months of launch, and the others will never get played.

If your problem is a half a percent chance to get a cool looking skin, it’s the game problem.
If tour problem is the lack of +5pewpewpoint, it’s your problem I guess.

The reward system has always been half broken is most places, but it’s not like it could follow the usual EQ/WoW model.

The swamp is the easiest by a gigantic margin though.
If you think this is hard in PUG, try a high level cliffside with people that don’t understand a focus target…

PUGs are already a nightmare in these things.

Especially that one where you have to run the magic seeds through the swamp and get them into the bucket all in a specific amount of time.

“More challenging” just means “I’ll pass, thx”

hardy83 Funny, for me the lack of a gear grind or there being a gear grind doesn’t entice me to play either way for an MMO these days.
