Camelot Unchained wants stealth but not the sucky kind

Today’s Camelot Unchained update is a long one, and that’s because Mark Jacobs has a lot to cover. He talks about everything from backer benefits to the game’s terrain code and, oh yeah, there’s a little bit about the new stealth stretch goal.

Jacobs goes to great lengths to describe how Camelot Unchained’s version of stealth won’t be easy mode, or an I-win button, or any of the other things that you may have groaned about when you read the word stealth. “It is a word loaded with more baggage than the Kardashian household on a family vacation,” Jacobs says.

He goes on to list seven goals for stealth in CU, as well as how the mechanic will affect various archetypes and ultimately fit into the title’s larger RvR gameplay. “Stealth has to be a great add to our game, or it won’t be added,” Jacobs concludes. “If we make a stealth system that we have to pull out, I’ll offer to refund this stretch goal out of my own pocket (not the company’s pocket) to any one who donates during this time.”

First all the bitch about stealth is incorrect. I never saw a stealthier stand in front of a portal keep and wtfpwn every group that came out, I have seen a r-master do it. Also saw a group of 8 with a good Minstrel hold down and kill 2 groups of 8 and half of another before they died. Why? Because of the Minnie keeping everyone ZZZ’d. But, this is for another day. I am not a stealth only player I play and enjoy all classes but am convinced that the OP always belongs to the caster classes; I think devs love them because they get to play with all the bright, pretty twinkly, wavy hands in the air, special affects.

I like the idea of scout beinging rewarded, I spent many hours of pvp in DAOC scouting with my hunter for zergs during relic raids and got no realm points for my efforts even though I was helping many of other players earn theirs. It will be nice to be rewarded for this style of game play and it was great to roam the world and see stuff others did not.

As for those wavy sparkle affects how about this in game:

When using magic like electricity or fire have it behave and do damage as in real life. If a group is attacked with lightning, the bolt would go to the plate wearing armor or a sword waved in the air and might divert from the intended target; If, the intended target avatar was wearing cloth or leather. As the caster levels he/she gains the ability to better control the bolt and keep it on target.

When the bolt strikes metal the wearer of that armor would take a larger dps than others near by, but, metal dissipates heat rapidly so there could be a minimum of heat damage. A nearby player wearing cloth or leather would receive some electric shock dps but then would also be inflicted with a dot from the heat on their leather or cloth armor.

Since cloth or leather does not dissipate heat as readily as metal the wearer of the dotted armor would then have a choice; wear the armor and continue to take damage, or, remove it and the dot, but, be subject to being attacked without complete armor. If the victim had a spare piece in their pack they could dawn the new piece and be protected but, doing so might change their stats if the new piece had different stats than the dotted armor. Of course, once the dot faded the armor could then be re-equipped!

More importantly, if you read this MJ, thanks for diversifying the ability to play stealth and the beta delay. It is more important for the game to come out right, because you decided to delay I will become a backer.

Above all how is your wife and her recovery coming we would love any further updates that you may be willing to share; many of us are concerned for her and your well being.

Ohhh yeah I forgot to mention I saw the word ‘water” in the complete article.  This brings a smile to my face.  I can not wait to see some water start to be integrated into the game word.

Veldan KirkSteadman I disagree, it takes some time to set it up and you can’t just roam around in stealth indefinitely. I’m speaking from a thiefs perspective, I don’t know how it works with mesmer.

Mark Jacobs Zulika_Mi_Nam It’s amazing Mark how when you give your thoughts on the design on something, I always find myself thinking “Yay, finally a dev that understands!!!”

KirkSteadman o.o
Last time I checked the gw2 stealth was a pretty good example of how not to do it… constantly stealthing in the middle of combat creates nothing but annoyance / frustration.

First sorry for the bad english.
Secondly what if the veil is like water? And the VS/VW walk through them like an the bottom of the sea? They can hold there breath but if they wait to long they gasp for breath and leave steath stunned.
