The Daily Grind: How long did you spend in Project Gorgon’s tutorial?

73

I got sucked into Project Gorgon last night, and I spent over two hours wandering around the game’s tutorial cave. There’s a lot to see and do and learn, and that was before I picked up the autopsy skill and took a perverse sort of pleasure in examining every NPC corpse to see who had killed it and how they had killed it.

Plus, autopsy XP.

Anyway, one of these days I should probably get out of the tutorial cave, but there are some off-the-map areas that I haven’t explored yet, as well as some sort of scary boss that the game warned me not to engage without a group. What about you, MOP readers? Are you playing Project Gorgon, and if so, how long did you spend in the tutorial cave?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

extremexcarver Apollymi I had to go back to the cave because I had just spent a few hours killing and being killed but never figured out how to get my rat pet, lol.  This game could easily rival SWG for gaming addiction, lol!  There’s just so much to do and so many really cool things to discover.

SandboxPodcast Apollymi Not everyone will have that opinion.  Most of us here on this site are mmo veterans and could easily skip the tutorial.  Not everyone will want to do that, and really why would someone skip it.  Why miss out on the skills presented there?

Tizmah1 Have you looked at the water in this game?  Seems pretty real to me.

Each game has it’s own visual feel.  If the game itself is fun and interesting, the rest is just gravy.

Okay so I can now mesmerize skeletons for 10 seconds by using my Psychology skeelz to get them to talk to me about their mothers.

Game of the Century material.

SandboxPodcast Apollymi  I think it did a good job of highlighting the strengths and features tbh.  You get introduced to several different skills, many of the game’s core mechanics/systems, and it’s only as linear as you make it.  ’cause there are at least two puzzles to do in there, I think a hidden corridor that leads to the Megaspider boss, and there are two NPCs you can build rep up with and the one you talk with at the beginning of the cave gives you an alchemy quest.

Modrain  Those portals unlocked a chest in the middle of the area which gives you a special spell + some reagents for it.

Rozyn  I also find it funny that Pigs get a spell called “Pig Punt” and Spiders get the ability to disguise themselves as humans to fool shopkeepers/NPCs into talking with them.
