A Tale in the Desert reboots into Tale 7 on September 11th

We’ve known for a little while that A Tale in the Desert’s next “telling” was on its way, but now we have firmer details as to how and when that will happen.

The sandbox’s lead developer Pluribus took a poll of the community as to a start date, with the community electing to reboot into Tale 7 on September 11th. This will allow for players to wrap up projects and goals between now and then. Pluribus said that the servers will go offline on September 8th to get ready for the next telling and that he’s looking into ways for players to reserve their character names, skip levels, and preorder subscription time for Tale 7.

We’ve got a partial transcript of the dev chat for you to read after the jump!

Someone give the guy some money so he can upgrade the graphics! That’s the biggest thing blocking me from playing. I just can’t get into video quality from 1999.

This game has nice and rewarding crafting, but for a sandbox game you are tied hand and feet to do cringingly boring quests that you do not want to do, in order to rise in level to be able to do anything that you want to do.
The worst thing for me though is that the game world is absolutely dead. There are very diverse plant and mushroom spawns (oh yea, crazy mushroom hunts), but no animals to interact with at all. Not a single one, except for some bizarre minigames where you have to whack an otter on its head when it comes out of one out of 7 holes or something.

Damonvile Reetin Oh I did that. My eyesight is terrible so I had to zoom way in, in order to read any of it. Thanks for the reply though.

I always get a chuckle out of it when people say Vanguard had the best crafting system.

zoward I only played during tale 2 and 4 or so and I dropped by to check it out during a few others.  But, i think it really doesn’t matter when you join.I think the community is pretty good at helping people get started. But, If you get in during the beginning, you may get a better choice of camp sites.  Most people like being near other places and build communities, others like living remotely. There’s *TON*s of space, so I never worry about finding a good spot.

But if you get in early:
Get first pick of “premium” camp sites. (near tons of trees, clay, other good resources, papyrus growing / drying spots), etc. Or course, you can still get these later, but you’ll be running or teleporting around a lot more.

You get to figure out a lot of the mysteries of the game first without having the aid of a wiki. For example, you can find and forage herbs. There are different ways to harvest it. Pick the wrong way and you may destroy it (or not get as much), or just eat it to get buffed stats. Or, you can prospect and claim mineral veins.

Lastly, you’ll be helping unlock the first few technologies.

There’s other bonus to starting at the very beginning, but that’s all I can think off off the top of my head.
