Neverwinter walks you through stronghold buildings, guild hall, and eateries

There’s a heapload of information for Neverwinter players to absorb regarding the upcoming Stronghold module, and Cryptic’s been rolling out the dev diaries left and right to prepare the populace for the guild zones’ implementation.

First up is a dev blog showing the various visual states that a guild hall can have as it is gradually repaired. Next is a behind-the-scenes tour of how the team created the various structures that guilds can build in their stronghold. Finally, there’s a look at the succulent menu of new food and drinks that can be created for guild members to enjoy.

If you’re looking for a great overview of the entire stronghold system, make sure to read our developer tour of the update! Strongholds are coming to the PC version of Neverwinter on Tuesday, August 11th.

teppic My conspiracy theory is, they want to cull the population a little.
Game got a little too popular compared to the revenue it generates. IMO ofc…

teppic FeveredDreamer You did well to squeeze that all in there as your right the problems could well take up many a page:)
Ive been playing on an off (more off the past year) but jumped back in the past couple of weeks to give Mod 6 a whirl now its settled down a bit. Its just… I dont know where to start tbh.
All seems fine while doing the old leveling 1-60 but then the game just flips on its head for 60-70, the direction regarding leveling, gear, enchants etc is all over the place with no cohesion & just an ugly grind.
The ground up f2p model is really starting to show with the development having to incorporate ever increasing ridiculous gear, mounts+stats etc to squeeze open your wallets. Rank 12 enchants having double the stat+ that rank 10’s do pretty much render obsolete old gear/content.
Its a real shame as at is core Neverwinter isnt a bad game but its business model can only lead it down an ever darker path. It isnt developed with enjoyment in mind but what can be pilfered from your pockets an it really is showing now.

I should have paid more attention back in 2013 when I got in game rewards for surviving rollbacks & exploits.

teppic FeveredDreamer Yeah PvP I do recall being a hot mess, which is weird as the game’s combat system seems so well done on other levels.  I noticed I couldn’t use Leadership via the Gateway, annoyed and disappointed but I didn’t think it was the biggest deal.  Thanks for informing me about the rest though, seriously.  I have very clear memories of Neverwinter’s endgame being everything bad about MMOs when I initially quit, and since I’ve returned I’ve wholeheartedly avoided it and have been enjoying the game as a minor amusement :)

FeveredDreamer teppic I think it’d take a few pages to describe… in summary as best I can:
End game grind – the supremely ridiculous amounts needed for refinement have taken all enjoyment from the game and made it pretty much impossible for people to get the best gear even if they put money into the game. This has driven away half the population since mod 6 launched.
XP nerf – they’ve doubled XP requirements making the level 60-70 grind, which was already awful doing the exact same quests over and over, twice as bad.
Bugs and exploits – mod 6 removed lots of content which was never restored, added stuff was recycled, dungeons and skirmishes are broken and full of exploits, which ironically is the only way to complete some.
Bots – the game is full of bots and Cryptic takes measures that hit players and not bots, like removing Leadership from Gateway.
AD – they’ve removed loads of legitimate ways to earn AD in game, making all the grind so much worse and removing rewards from actually playing.
PVP – I don’t know where to start.

I could go on, but this is getting a bit long. It’s frustrating, as the game was great before.

teppic What are people generally unhappy about? I only play Neverwinter for fun and am *thoroughly* unengaged with the shitty endgame grindy stuff.

The game’s in such a broken mess of a state since mod 6, I don’t understand why they’ve just pushed ahead with mod 7 without addressing any of this. Presumably once this launches they’ll start on mod 8 (Underdark) and leave yet more mess.
There was a poll on the forums recently about how happy people were, which they closed with a bad excuse once it became obvious how unhappy people were (90% unhappy or concerned).
