Neverwinter introduces scaling subscription VIP program

Free-to-play Neverwinter has decided to dip its toes in the neighboring pool of subscriptions, as Cryptic announced that it’s now offering a VIP membership to players who want to pay on a monthly basis.

VIP packs can be purchased through the game store and used for 30 days of premium membership. What’s interesting here is that players will accrue “VIP points” the more packs they use, rising to ever-greater tiers of membership that offer more benefits. Think of it as traditional subscription perks merged with a loyalty program. VIP points never go away even if the player allows the sub to lapse.

Some of the perks for the VIP program include a free daily enchanted key, access to the exclusive Moonstone Mask zone, teleporation signposts, injury immunity, free auction house posting, and boosts to XP and astral diamond acquisition.

Is this worth playing yet? I played when it first came out but just felt let down by it, plus it seemed to be too small with lots of little zones with loading screens. Though maybe I’m not remembering the zones right?

7BitBrian Llokki mandodo69 teppic Well then you’re lucky I guess. I ended up turning my chat off because I got sick of blocking them constantly.

Llokki mandodo69 teppic Your anecdotal evidence doesn’t match with my anecdotal evidence. But only one can be how it actually is right?

mandodo69 teppic 1–2 gold farmer? Seriously? No offense, but were you only logged in for a few minutes or something? Because whenever I’ve played, every time I report/block one, another pops up a few minutes later. Almost the entire time I’m playing.

Ehra DamnDirtyApe While I agree, they’ve made the refinement system so ridiculously and ludicrously over the top that paying won’t really make any difference. Spend $10 and get another 0.1% of the way.

I mean, it’s fairly obvious that systems like Artifacts are built around trying to get players to pay to remove the grind. Then you have their love with having rare loot that’s exclusively gained through lotto boxes.

Exactly. Gosh I wish Trion had never split up their focus on a bunch of other games, but somehow Rift is still the best F2P MMORPG around. Best B2Ps go to TSW and GW2.
BTW, Didn’t another game recently go to B2P? I moved to Japan and ironically took a long break from gaming so I’m totally out of it now.
