‘Twas Hollywood, not Bungie, that pulled Peter Dinklage from Destiny

Peter Dinklage’s voice work in the Destiny alpha is one of those gaming memes that transcends knowledge of the game in question. We leave it to readers whether or not that’s deserved. But that’s not why Dinklage is being replaced by Nolan North as a voice actor; according to Bungie, Dinklage’s Hollywood schedule simply means that he’s not readily available to record voiceovers on short notice.

As reported previously, North will record all of the lines for the player’s AI companion in both the base game and The Taken King. If you’re worried about the length of the latter, you can rest assured that this expansion is going to be substantially larger than the game’s previous DLC offerings, so purchasers can expect more than snazzy new Nolan North lines (which may or may not include discussions of wizards and their descent from planetary satellites).

ihatevnecks GoT takes up 3 months out of a year and 90% of the characters die each episode (twice that number if they are fan-favourites).
Most of his time is spent working on indy-projects and alike.

Peter Dinklage isn’t readily available to record on short notice? It’s too bad something like that couldn’t have been predicted before they hired him. Who would have thought Peter Dinklage, from Game of Thrones, might actually be a busy guy?

Of course that is also the point when their pr spin falls apart: one option would be to schedule out to get the VO done more than a month ahead of your launch date ….

Uhm … “Short notice?”

Damonvile That…seems like utter bullshit. You don’t haul a voice actor in, especially a celebrity voice actor, for a few lines at a time.

Greaterdivinity Damonvile The rumor I heard about destiny is they where so paranoid about leaks and disorganized when it came to getting the actual voice acting done he was only ever given his script a few lines at a time and never actually recorded more than a few in each session.

If that;s true it’s no wonder he sounds like he has no connection to the role and doesn’t want to continue working with them…who would.

I guess that’s the problem when signing big names for voice acting a continuous role.
