Champions Online overhauls events and offers sales

So that's why this game is like that!

Events are the real thing to do at this point in Champions Online; there’s not a whole lot of new updates in the pipe for the game, sadly. So it’s a good thing that the game has overhauled the way that events work as a whole with an eye toward making sure every single month has some events running in the game. There’s also an overhaul to the previous hourly events, as those setups were frequently too short for players to take advantage of the bonuses; the game will now host longer special events that allow more time for players to cash in on special things happening.

If that inspires you to spend more time in the game, you could take advantage of the 20% off hideout sale currently running. Or you could just skip the leveling process by directly buying the limited-time Power-Up Pack, which boosts a character above level 5 straight to level 30 and offers a set of starter equipment for the top level. That should provide you with enough to get you moving at the top end, at least.

Have a better business model, respec options, allow more a-la-carte options to F2P players… I don’t mind the gameplay at all really, it’s mostly just the business model that I have a problem with. I don’t expect them to go back and make sweeping, fundamental changes to the gameplay on a game this old that probably isn’t making enough money to justify it…

The_Grand_Nagus I posted about this on their boards. This game should be rocking because of the super hero craze happening. Most people don’t even know about this game. But i will say this,No matter what time of day you login to this game the city is full of players that love this game. Its a shame really. They should give f2p players a bone and let them at lease see what a free form character is like. That’s the fun part of this game.

Then again the ability to create your own superhero or recreate you favorite is what drew people to CoX and CO originally. Superman is my favorite superhero of all time and yet I’ve. Ever made one anything like him in any game.

JayBezzOfficial Hah, yeah. At most you only ever need two attacks (one single-target and one AoE), and the rest is all just buffs, buffs, and more buffs. No incentive to do otherwise.
But such an overhaul as that which would be required to fix this would require a much larger budget than the skeleton crew working on the game currently has, I imagine. Very sad state of affairs.

Different persons, different needs. Just like some people think freely respeccing like in Diablo 3 dilutes choice and makes specs meaningless, I find that being locked to just one spec is, for me, stifling enough to make a game just not worth playing.
So, not really willing to try CO as it stands. Without doing a couple full respecs every gaming session being feasible (and free in a monetary sense) I typically won’t even give a game a second glance.

And yep, I knew CO allows to try specs before committing to them. That, for me, changes nothing, though. My issue is not, and was never, about researching my spec beforehand; rather, it’s about being able to fully change how my character plays whenever I please. Which is why the only game with spec restrictions I was ever able to play was STO; between field officers, the crew, the ship, and my gear — plus a boring generic build that didn’t excel in anything but also didn’t have any weak points, and thus didn’t restrict me from trying anything — I was able to change my gameplay in STO nearly as much as I can in games that allow free respecs.

schmidtcapela That’s the whole point of the Powerhouse.

You go there, pick a power and try it out, if you don’t like it unlearn it and grab another at no cost.  It’s only until you leave that the powers lock in and a cost will be attached to unlearn it.  If you were impatient and picked it immediately out in the world without trying it out first, then you really only have yourself to blame.

I’ve never had to respec, as I make full use of the Powerhouse.  As was intended.

That specific one is a pet peeve of me in about every game I play. It’s why I waited nearly a year to start playing WoW (but purchased the game the very day respeccing for gold was confirmed), it’s why I’ve stopped playing FireFall (one of the cheapest respecs for real money you will find, but still costs real money, so it irritates the heck out of me), a good part of why I don’t play DCUO anymore (I was mostly happy with how respeccing worked until they added weapon and power respeccing for money), and why even after trying three times I couldn’t keep playing City of Heroes (every time, as soon as I wanted to respec, I would get so frustrated with the game I would lose all my will to play).

The only game with paid for respecs I was able to play for any length of time was STO. And only because I started by picking a generic cookie-cutter build and from them on pretended that specs didn’t even exist. It’s the only MMO I’ve ever played where I never learned what those things I put points on did, in fact.

The rest of CO’s restrictions I don’t mind much. If I became interested in the game, I would very likely purchase a lifetime Vip anyway.
