Check out Otherland’s housing in its features video

Last week, Drago Entertainment emerged from its zone of quiet development to remind everyone that Otherland still exists and in fact is releasing on Steam early access next week. A new key feature video demos a number of game mechanics, including the auction hall, vendoring, and player housing. Housing amounts to a large, instanced apartment, but it comes with an awesome cityscape view (seriously) and customization of rooms and textures, complete with lovely glowy cyberpunk flair.

Enjoy the vid and pics below.

I don’t like the crafting. For one thing I’m not big on crafting systems where you hand the materials to some other guy to do the work for you. I’m crafting an item, so I want to be the one doing the actual crafting… especially if I have to be stuck looking at a progress bar anyway!

Another thing… the progress bar… we need to move beyond simply standing stock still and looking at progress bars. Otherland is supposed to be a game within a game… you’re a player in a virtual universe made of connected worlds utilizing sci-fi level technology… couldn’t we have queue crafting like we had in Fallen Earth? Why does the player have to look at a progress bar, stand in a ‘forge’, or talk to a NPC? That’s all a little too 2005 isn’t it?

Also, the make or break crafting – loss of materials on a failed crafting isn’t acceptable (to me), if the crafting fails, there should at least be some materials left over, but with diminished returns so that you couldn’t just macro loop it.

Vunak I like the accent, I think it sounds badass. On the other hand though, when he says ‘Vend’ it sounds like ‘Fend’ and obscures the buying/selling process. That’s fine though, keep the accent.

the cost for all the edition are more than great if you ask me.
the EA going to be at least six month so you also can wait and see review and how the game going.

im going to buying the CE to support the developer.
the game play maybe not look like the best thing ever but all the sci-fi, the tron color and of course the otherland universe look great.

A mess for years, but a mess coming for release with plenty of features available.
What’s not to fear?
But it looks good and cool and all…
