Final Fantasy XIV launches in South Korea to solid internet cafe stats

There's really only one mode, when you get down to it.
Final Fantasy XIVs launch in South Korea happened too recently to make any declarations about its long-term fate. What can be said with certainty, though, is that the game is off to a solid start. Stats from the country’s internet cafes show the game to be ranked number three in playtime among all MMORPGs played following its launch.

Unlike many games in the South Korean market, Final Fantasy XIV is still using a pay-to-play model with its local publisher. It’s an impressive showing out of the gate, but only time will tell if it manages to continue that momentum past its launch week.

Bannex19 FFXIV is not even WoW level grind, it’s the most casual MMO currently on the market, and it has the biggest number of side activities for when you’re bored of doing end game content.

Also you can pretend the game is all about cat people or whatever but the people actually playing the game knows you’re full of shit so just stop please. Sorry a game you hate so much is succeeding, it must suck.

ChannelOoi Well on the terms on well FF14 is doing compared to previous competition. It is the only good competition WoW has had.

DPandaren Leilonii Lol killing a boss a few times to get gear? You have clearly never played a game with a real grind. FFXIV you play one or two days a week, cap out on everything, and max your gear in weeks playing super casually. It’s not a grind in any sense of the word.

As someone whose played a lot of Korean games with real grind, FFXIV doesn’t have any at all.

Leilonii Eh, it kind of is. Now there’s system to get the gear you want if bosses decide not to drop it, but it’s still a grind since you still need to kill the boss a set amount of times to get tokens to turn in. Grind each week to fill out the weekly tomestone caps, then grind out to get your weapon. Just because the grind in FFXIV is shorter then other games does not make it any less of a grind.

SoMuchMass It might have to do with it being game that’s pretty low taxing on most PCs. One of the same reasons why Starcraft was big was because you could play it on anything, for example.

staticlove666 Belegorm 1.0 still had better graphics.

Ekphrasis True. And since this is a subscription game, I think it’s likely that the internet cafe segment of the market is smaller than the play-at-home market for this title.

Current contender for WoW killer, quite a long time since the last decent challenger appear.

Fyi, there is a big gear grind. All of you pretend there isn’t but there is.

There are tons of these posts, this was just the most well thought out one.
So you all can pretend the game isn’t full of cat people, 10 year old girls and grinds all you want but it is SOWWWWWWWWY.
