WildStar previews its free-to-play loyalty reward system

Free-to-play games have a rather predictable system in place – you spend money on things and then you have them. Simple and straightforward. WildStar is doing that, yes, but it’s also giving players the opportunity to earn more things from the game simply by spending money without actually buying anything. The Cosmic Points system offers rewards to players just for buying boxed copies of the game, subscribing for a few months, and buying microtransaction currency, even before any of that currency is spent.

Rewards are arranged in a tier structure, with six total tiers available at launch. Rewards range from access to guilds and experience boosts to new cosmetic items such as mount customizations and titles. There’s even a new style of house available for those who reach the higher tiers. For a full breakdown of the first three tiers, a look at how players can earn more cosmic points, and how Signature members will earn Cosmic Points, check out the full article.

Looking at the chart if you buy a box copy doesn’t look like have any restrictions? That is pretty awesome.

Vagrant Zero I’m sure some folks have mathed it out, but that sounds about right, likely more since they added tiers.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have an issue if they just had more tiers to progress through. I blew through the first 2-3 given that I had years of sub time + spent a solid amount of money in the cash shop, but once I hit orange tier progression basically stopped. I’ve stopped giving Trion money, so I’m only gaining through purchasing REX, but even before that I was barely making any movement : /

Greaterdivinity Higgens  Yeah isn’t it like a cool 10Gs or something to max Rift Loyalty? That’s just absurd.

Ezekiel_Black Celestia Aranwe  Then it is unfair not to mention that subscription games are about “how can we artificially lengthen the game and gate things behind a grind so we can get the player to continue subbing” rather than “how can we make a great game.”

gizmomybizmo I jumped on a lowbie character last night and was surprised by how much more streamlined the experience already was. I had only really been playing around on my 50. Looking forward to dungeon levelling with F2P launch.

Some of those benefits are really generous.  Doesn’t take much to get full guild/ raid / circle access. Looking at how many points you get, I will definitely be somewhere in Tier 4 at least.

Celestia Aranwe Perhaps it is more a reference to the fact that F2P games end up being more about “how can we get the player to spend money” rather than “how can we make a great game.”

ArtemisiaWS  Been playing the beta and it looks like they’ve improved performance so maybe give it a shot when it becomes f2p.
