With the three factions of Dark Age of Camelot locked in a perpetual state of war with one another, widespread cheating has a seriously deleterious effect on the game’s overall environment. The development team has specifically taken aim against players using radar programs, with several hundred accounts receiving one-day suspensions due to use of third-party cheating tools.
Players who were caught in this mass suspension wave are advised to delete the cheating programs and come back to the game once the suspension is up with no further effects; continued users can look forward to much longer suspensions and possible bans. The announcement also reminds players to update their contact info on the off chance that they use the cheat, got the suspension, and didn’t receive an email. So… yes, don’t cheat while you play the game.
I left my main server (Morgan Le Fay) for a long while and came back on a classic server, hoping they’d cleaned up their game. I ran into an old Frontier enemy, now on my team, and we ran together in RvR. Then he got busted for radar and banned. That was it for me, the game was hopelessly dirty 10 years ago and nobody wants to play a dirty pvp game.
LeCreaux I eventually quit due to the same reasons. Â I stuck around a bit longer though. Â Why these accounts don’t get perma bans is beyond me though…
I stopped playing DAOC over 10 years ago because they couldn’t control the radar cheaters. Looks like some things never change.
JakeBoller It makes sense… They haven’t taken any action over the issue for 14 years… Would be kind of a dick move to declare it unacceptable and instantly ban everyone doing it for life without appeal :P Â 1 day is enough to tell everyone it’s no longer accepted
I’ve had hangovers longer than a one-day ban. One coming tomorrow, in fact.
Banning radar hackers was such a hot topic in 2002, back when I was busy stun locking groups with my Healer and running 8v8s around with my Skald.
dradiinmmo JakeBoller Radar hacks aren’t always obvious – unlike say..speed hacks (As an accomplished twisting Bard pre-NF it was easy to tell if someone was moving at a speed they shouldn’t) I know at one point, GM’s would do things like hide themselves in trees, etc to “catch” them in the act
The top RVR guilds were using radar programs starting at like 1st or 2nd month of launch… I remember everyone talking Odin’s Eye. Action was finally taken! LOL!
TheDonDude yeah I had to take a second glanceat that one before I registered the rest of it.
Wow… that’s a few years too late isn’t it? I’m surprised they’re making an issue of it since it’s been something that’s plagued the title since its heyday.
