Indie sandbox maker Mythyn Interactive has announced that the summer closed beta for Linkrealms will begin on August 29th.

Linkrealms has received multiple updates since its March closed beta, according to a Mythyn press release. The game universe is now three times larger than before and boasts “several new random events, dungeons, towns, and other points of interest.” The devs have also implemented “extensive” balancing tweaks both for the crafting and PvE experiences.

Finally, Mythyn is campaigning to get Linkrealms onto Steam through the Greenlight program. Earlier this summer the firm released a trailer in support of the campaign, and you can view it after the cut.

The % of people who actually enjoy open world PvP is tiny, it really is regardless of all the old Vanilla wow stories. PvP servers are the first to die in any game.
All MOBAs have proved is that people like small scale 5v5-ish PvP that has no gear/level discrepancies and is on an even playing field, something that no MMORPG with open world PvP has.

There’s two huge reasons why even a full on clone is going to be better than the original.
1. UO won’t merge servers even though they are dead.  This is due to housing issues.
2. The UO player base has some serious legacy baggage problems.  Like they actively fight against client upgrades at this point.  They won’t allow flawed systems to be fixed, etc, etc.

Looks a lot like UO to me, which would be good if it appeared to be a major upgraded version of it, but it doesn’t.  At least that’s how it looks to me.

jixjax Robert80  That’s nice… but the attitude of the video seems to hint where they will focus their efforts (at least, that is the impression it gives me.)
The game might indeed do well with the experience, but the ‘discussion’ involved is something that makes me want to run away, and fast… as that doesn’t sound like a fun MMO experience to me.

Armsbend kimowar That’s the thing though… everybody who wants that style of play is playing MOBAs, not MMOs. The gankbox model at anything bayond a niche has had it’s day – the audience for it has by and large abandoned the genre entirely.

This game!! I played it year ago back in closed beta, then it kinda fell off my radar and I forgot about it. It was actually pretty cool! I remember exploring crypts beneath a graveyard looking for new spells.
