One Shots: Quiet grace

When I take pictures of people in real life, I almost never ask them to pose. That feels so artificial to me; I’d rather have shots of them laughing, scowling, being weird, and being themselves instead. Also, I’m a creeper. It’s why I can appreciate this picture by reader Eamil from Final Fantasy XIV.

“This is my friend Rhadra Nelhah immediately after healing us through a dragonskin treasure map fight, wearing the Thavnairian bustier she just had crafted, holding a staff that shoots rainbows, and with the beautiful environment of the Sea of Clouds as a backdrop,” Eamil said. “I turned to look at her as the fight wound down and loot was being given out, and I couldn’t resist taking a screenshot.”

These moments of quiet grace should be photographed. And then photobombed.

I discovered that there’s a secret campaign on The Secret World forums to deluge us with screenshots, which would be totally great except my dumb one-pic-one-game-per-column policy. Now I have a billion TSW screenies and very little else.

Anyway, this week it’s reader Dajhryne’s turn at bat with this heroic pose: “Here I am taking in, and trying not to get killed by, the sights and sounds of Tokyo.”

“My feelings on World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor are what I will politely call less than kindly, but one thing about the expansion that has filled my heart with unadulterated joy is a new toy that transforms your character into the legendary Gamon, former punching bag and meme turned Hero of Orgrimmar,” sends in reader Tyler.

I love me some goofy Tauren, so this one gets a pass from me!

“Ever get the urge to go cruising around on your hover-board with the wind in your hair, and your fluffy tail streaming out behind you? I know I do!” Ralph the Wonder Llama asks. “One of the little things that annoyed me when WildStar first released was how slow the out-of-combat movement felt.  Returning to the game in anticipation of its free-to-play transition, I was pleased to find a nice little quality-of-life perk: Mounts are now available at level 3, and my level 12 esper couldn’t be happier!”

And that isn’t even to mention how sprint is now going to be a permanent part of running. Say goodbye to that shift key!

I’m declaring Xephyr the winner of this week’s It Came from the Comments! for this exuberant picture of an Asura gliding in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Whee!

I’ll say it again: Whee!

So why not make flight the theme of our screenshot challenge? Take a picture of you or someone else flying — or failing to fly spectacularly — and wing it in with a good story!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
