Guild Wars 2 teases Thief elite specialization

“This promises to be a distracting week…” Guild Wars 2 hinted on its Twitter account today, posting a piece of concept art with a figure holding what appears to be a staff or spear.

The safe money is on the announcement of the next Heart of Thorns elite specialization, most likely for the Thief class. Guild Wars 2 has already revealed several elite specs, including the Berserker, the Herald, the Tempest, the Reaper, the Dragonhunter, and the Chronomancer.

Guild Wars 2 will also be announcing the expansion’s “challenging group content” in a presentation at PAX this coming weekend.

Nreff TomTurtle Maybe they’ll give melee staffs a special model that copies the top section to the bottom section so it’s weighted correctly. Hopefully…

the skills and traits have been datamined and even if everything is NOT set in stone, the specialization is very dodge-oriented, it also changes the dodge mechanic with a dash mechanic which allows you to remove movement impairement skills. You can find the thread in GW2’s reddit. Thieves, rejoice! Your time in Dark Souls will now payoff :P

New sets while my preferred dual axe ranger build sits on a forgotten shelf by devs.

Nreff GW2 is no stranger to awkward looking weapons and armor. :P
(The latest animation on Necro’s axe auto-attack is hella awkward.)

As long as the “challenging group content” turns out being something I can be excited ( I hope! ) I will be calling HoT my new mmo home. I am also really eager to see how Engie’s elite turns out, I am hoping for a more basic melee/tanky build that doesn’t rely on kits heavily.

Nreff It’s all a bit messy in the classification but the gist of it is that pole weapons are the highest classification, below that, but divided, are polearms and pole weapons like staves. Polearms tend to have metal attached at an end for cutting, stabbing and the like. Staves are considered blunt pole weapons but not polearms.
To further muddy the issue, arm and weapon can be used interchangeably in languages since they can have the same meaning.

That aside, we know ArenaNet changed the holding stance for melee staves when we saw the Ventari specialization reveal.
