Eco, a global ecosystem game, makes its Kickstarter goal

If you want to view paradise, etc.

Good news, ecology fans: Eco made its Kickstarter target with 15 days left to go! Non-ecology fans can be excited, too, whether you’re a big fan of games making their Kickstarter goals or you just like the idea of a voxel-based world with an active ecology, player-run economy, and sweeping environmental changes based upon player actions.

The core behind the game is that player actions impact the network of the game’s ecosystem, allowing for deforestation, extinction, and depletion when resources are used without a care. Players will also contend with external disasters and hostile wildlife, crafting and selling both goods and services on player-run servers. If it’s something that interests you, feel free to jump in on the campaign before it ends in early September.

Tiogui CistaCista Denngar Yes, I love the story and I am using it on my upcoming website as well. I would just enjoy seeing an indepth story about what precisely was going on in that beta, that’d be awesome.

Denngar Rozyn Wait, no mobs? Oh, you can’t say Player *Versus* Environment. You just live with it the environment.

Rozyn Denngar No, I think people would vote to cut down few trees just to screw up other people :P

CistaCista Denngar Tiogui I don’t really remember the details of how it was implemented. I don’t even know if it was named dynamic wildlife…
Garriot himself stated that players were killing every single critter out there. That would be the alleged reason for the system not going through.

Great news!  I hope they will have a major main server, I am not fond of player run environments, I want a real MMO.

Denngar Tiogui I would like to see a Game Archeologist feature on the UO beta. I find it hard to believe that they made it with no animal spawns. Also, all you need is the ability for players to protect as well as to destroy. Plant species in Wurm Online can in principle also be eradicated from the world (animals cannot since they spawn), but there will always be players that mnake sanctuaries for them.

Rozyn Gibbins Not really. Check out Wurm Online, still not a wasteland after 5-6 years of deforestation and terraforming :)   Players actually want nice things around them.

Rozyn  Ah, but remember, the game’s made to be used in school and by private users (well, there will be official servers too, but I’m still not sure how that’ll go; I feel like a game pushing for education about the environment will attract less ass hats, especially if it’s Buy to Play and PvE). I also know there’s at least one adult-in-the-non-porno-sense oriented site ( http://dewyhills.com/ ) that’s looking to make an adults only server, which (hopefully) will help a bit. Who knows, maybe since the MOP crowd seems to prefer PvE survival (Hi MOP Ark server!), one of the staff members might host a community server.

Tiogui That always felt exciting to me though. At least it was an option. However, let’s be honest, RPing a game keeper’s more fun than actually running around and stopping people from killing wildlife. Having a system that enforces it seem appealing.
