ArcheAge is launching in China next month

After a couple of delays, it looks as though China will finally be able to join the ArcheAge club in less than two weeks.

Tencent announced that ArcheAge will go live in the country on September 8th. The Chinese version soft-launched earlier this month with a no-wipe state, but any reason for a celebration, right?

Chinese idol group SNH48 has signed on to do the publicity for the game’s release, which sort of but not really explains the bizarre ads that Tencent is producing.

Archeage has no chance on the chinese market. It will just wither and die. Crazy competitive market, tons of AAA productions(china exclusive even) and this game covers no ground which isn’t covered by other games already and it excels in nothing.

Chinese version is a completely different gaming experience!
Imho the best AA version out there!

I think I get what these strange ads are trying to do — I’m just not convinced they’re actually succeeding.

That picture With the squid…  I think we’ve all seen enough Hentai to know where this is going.

Silverbourne  “Chinese females that look not entirely unlike something from the
Archeage character creator posing in environments that highlight some of
the more unique features of AA?”

I did not notice it until I read you comment, but they are actually wearing IRL versions of in-game costumes.

Armsbend Sorenthaz Tencent runs their own version of LoL which actually has extra features that Riot’s version doesn’t have.  So yes, they do publish LoL.  And that “67 million players” they’ve been touting since January 2014 (aside: it’s very strange that they haven’t updated that number yet) is probably 50-60% from China alone.  Much like they make up probably 50-70% of WoW’s subscriber count.

Armsbend Sorenthaz Yep, League was proven widely successful before the whole Tencent thing.

Tencent didn’t provide anything other than a platform to play it on in China.

It’s the same here, nobody plays a game BECAUSE of the publisher, they only avoid games due to publishers.  The rest is decided on the game’s quality and appeal.
