Champions Online celebrates Vehicle Week

20

Rev your engines, for Champions Online is calling all superheroes to exercise their driving and flying skills for Vehicle Week.

The event, which is currently running and will end on September 3rd, includes a store sale on vehicles and a chance for all villains to drop vehicle mods. There’s also a quest to help an NPC rebuild a flying steam bike which then is given to the player as a thank-you. Even better, the bike can be used to enter in a sky race and earn daily prize packs.

Champions Online looks as though it’s actually making an effort lately to put out new content and events. It recently announced that it will be allowing players to temporarily step into the shoes of supervillains.

Peregrine_Falcon CastagereShaikura The_Grand_Nagus Yeah on and off. I just wish there was more to do in that game. Hoping the new season really does something.

Ceder What’s so ‘infamous’? After the settlement of the lawsuit marvel had against Cryptic/NCSoft and CoH; Marvel teamed with MS and asked if Cryptic would be interested in creating ‘Marvel Universe Online”. Unhappy with how NCSoft was supporting them on CoH, Cryptic did a deal where they sold the CoH IP to NCSoft, and some of their staff agreed to remain under NCSoft (NCSoft created ‘Paragon Studios’) – and then Cryptic went off to do MUO.
Of course Microsoft being Microsoft (after a deal had been done and development started on MUO) said: “Oh BTW  this MMO you’re making will do better subscription numbers then World of warcraft once you release it, rifght? We’re Microsoft, we expect to be #1 with any product we back..”
Cryptic actually answered honestly and said: “No.” (And lets be honest even Blizzard realizes their success with WoW will never be topped, which is why they stopped development on their own next MMO as marketing probably realized it said MMO didn’t equal or top WoW, Blizzards MMO Dev company image would suffer.)
At that point Microsoft pulled out of the deal and marvel followed; and Cryptic went on to find a Superhero IP they could pick up fast and cheap (aka the Champions pencil and paper role-playing game); and further found a company willing to bankroll continued development (French based Atari, aka Infiogames); and they went on to develop and release Champions Online.
I don’t believe there was ever any ‘bad blood’ between the Devs of CO and CoH as hell, when NCSoft shutdown and laid off the Paragon employees; Cryptic re-hired a number of them. (And yes, Cryptic re-hired, and then a year of so later laid off Matt (Positron) Miller; but again, I haven’t heard of any ‘bad blood’ or issues between him and Cryptic. When you join/head another company for 5 years, you usually loose any seniority with your previous company even if you return.)

It’s a little too early for me to eat my words. Especially if this “week” started before right now. I bet I don’t have an email from them telling me this is going on… Nope. Failed again. But hey good on them for putting forth effort.

Cryptic have not attempted cars and bikes on the roads of Millennium City because it is technically impossible. The way the city map was developed – it can’t recognise or handle it or something – Now all they have is stupid different flavours of flying rocket-bike / plane which instead of being customisable as once hinted by the devs – they have become another excuse for grind and for slotting enhancements.

undeadtexan wolfyseyes I know Donatello does machines and all, but Mikey took the Occam’s Razor approach with the same idea. His solution achieved the same goal much easier :P Just morph your belly shell into a pizza shooter, duh!
