Project Gorgon is soon switching to Steam and restricting alpha access

With its successful Kickstarter campaign behind it, indie MMO Project Gorgon is forging ahead with plans to transition to Steam.

Elder Game sent out a letter to all backers this morning with a timetable regarding the team’s fall plans. The big announcement is that in a few weeks the alpha server will be closed to everyone except those who pledged funds. Previously, the game had been open to any and all who wanted to try it out. Following the server restriction, Gorgon will make the jump to Steam in late October and require players to access the game through that service.

The team said that there will be options available for fans to buy into the alpha or upgrade their pledge going forward, perhaps with PayPal. Additionally, a preview of the guild system is tentatively scheduled for the next update, which should be good news to the social structure of the game.

Syppi MagmaFist MesaSage I got the original message in my email and the laugh you appeared to have edited out. Is this an inside joke or something I’m missing?

Syppi MagmaFist MesaSage No, apparently a misunderstanding on my part from a combination of comments by some Kickstarter backers and the lack of anything referring to an alpha or beta stage on their website. If I hadn’t read further I would have thought it was in full swing. Just a cursory glance, it appeared like any other MMO that is putting out content and bug-fixes.
Interesting how they avoid the alpha or beta nomenclature, at least as far as I can see in my short visit to their site.

MesaSage “If players want to support that, then that’s what they’ll continue to get.”

Well crap, I didn’t know I was arguing with someone who can predict the future with absolute certainty.

Shows over folks, take your kickstarters and go home. MesaSage has spoken and so it shall be!

MesaSage MagmaFist Ahh, I was going by some Kickstarter comments where some people were upset they didn’t know the game was live(due to their accounts being deactivated despite their pledge) in combination with reading their website(except your quote of course) and not seeing any mention of alpha or beta testing stages. I guess their word for Beta is “Early Enrollment” which they are currently taking at this time.

Akufen People can pay for whatever they want.  If they want to pay for promises, nobody is stopping them.  With few exceptions, crowdfunded games are providing less-than-satisfactory results.  If players want to support that, then that’s what they’ll continue to get.

MagmaFist PFO is not open to the public.
From their Website “We expect to begin Open Enrollment early in 2016.  Open Enrollment will
represent the point where we believe the game is comparable to similar
MMOs developed in an old-fashioned, opaque, “ship it when it’s done”
method. Open Enrollment will feature territorial battles for Settlement
control, and more robust graphics and UI.”

MesaSage Please name me just one viable, completed MMO that’s come out of Kickstarter.  Just one.  I’ll wait.
