Star Citizen’s social module is now playable

Star Citizen fans have a lot to chew on this weekend, as Cloud Imperium has released the game’s social module, a dev blog on electronic warfare, and the weekly Star Marine status update.

Design director Tony Zurovec has penned a lengthy intro to the social module, which allows you to choose from a handful of character configurations and “explore the first of many planetary landing zones” with up to 24 other players.

The electronic warfare blog outlines ship signatures, radar scanning, and both offensive and defensive EW in detail, while the Star Marine update hits the usual gameplay, art, audio, animation, and UI highlights as well as “the big merge” from staging to game-dev.

Cotic_OP I can’t really have smooth (i mean really smooth) gameplay over 1080p with my “old” GTX680.    Waiting for the 980ti to become common before I take that plunge.

Darkwalker75 GoJammit That doesn’t surprise me in the least.  We already know that ALL items for sale in the “cash shop” aren’t BiS.  Even the ships.  They’re the default “stock” versions.

Its even been said that the rarest and most powerful items in the game will only be obtainable through gameplay, they cannot be bought with real money.

Ceder For what it’s worth…I’m trying to reduce my “debating” with M.  Bear with me though, the process is WIP lol.  As for the latter, that wouldn’t surprise me.  He does it on Reddit.  He admitted to being a poster called “yepimright”.

GoJammit Agreed.  Do I think that the prices of some items may be a little bit high?  Sure?  But then again, I’m not buying them, so I don’t care much.  Aside from appreciating the fact that every person who buys the game / items are assisting in helping to potentially make the game better.
No one is forcing people to buy these things. In fact, no one HAS to buy them.  As CIG have said time and time again, the majority of these items will be “obtainable” in the game **without** the need to buy them using real money.  But that just doesn’t seem to sink in to some people, probably because it completely destroys their “Cash Shops are bad mmmkay?” argument.
The fact is that no amount of bitching and whining will change the reality that cash shops are here to stay, in one form or another.  One can either learn to accept it, or stop playing the games they love out of protest.  But then, they are “cutting their nose off to spite their face” if they do.

Mydian13  Even if CIG succeed in doing what they are attempting, then the trolls will do what trolls have always done with MMO’s…..
1)  The truely obsessive one will carry on bleating about how the game has failed.  Even though it’s obvious it hasn’t at that point. Unable to move on, they see SC and CIG as the devil who is scamming people who are “blind” to what they are doing.
2)  The “jump on the bandwagon” type of trolls, will buy the game at / after launch and proclaim how it’s great, and that they’ve never said a bad word about it.  Their accounts will have absolutely no association with their days / weeks / months / years of trolling, so no one will know any different.
One common factor is that such individuals seldom own up to being wrong.  This is why you DS playing both sides.  In one breath saying things like “I was always **for** Star Citizen, I didn’t want its development to be in jeopardy….” (or words to that effect) while at the same time advocating that people take steps to instigate legal proceedings against CIG and getting his lawyers to send threatening letters.
