Trion wasted little time getting its newly announced Atlas Reactor turn-based PvP thing in front of gamers. After revealing the title at PAX last Friday, the company has announced that it is now taking alpha signups. and, oh guess what, the alpha starts today.

Atlas Reactor attempts to meld fast-pace combat with simultaneous turn-based gameplay. How does it come off? You can read Larry’s hands-on impressions from PAX to find out. assuming you’re not already in the alpha!

Armsbend Ceder They do it with their own games too, although in Rift’s case they’re not called founder’s packs (as the game is 4 years old now). But yeah, even the free to play no-tricks-no-traps Rift has several different packs, up to a $ 150 one, if memory serves.

Rift was okay, but don’t mistake that for good.  It had a total of 1 leveling path per each faction and one singular city as well.  That’s right:  3 races per faction, yet only one “city”.  I dare even call it a city, because by other games’ standards it twas but a mid-hub only.
There’s also continued lore issues with story and how some NPCs were in different locations at the same time.  Like the main female character -the one on the posters- was in 3 different hubs for that sake.  It’s inconsistent.
The best thing the game had going for it was the Rifts and it’s ability to interrupt and interact with quest hubs.  But that got nerfed very early thanks to complaints about “unable to do quests” and “too hard”, with all that jazz.

Siphaed  I think Rift is a good game and that’s the problem , in a world with many good games you need to do something special and Rift never quite got there .

SallyBowls1 dradiinmmo Ceder  Bulter’s dismissal as CEO by the board was due in no small part to the failures of Rift and studio issues Trion was facing such as the doomed launched of Defiance followed by the shutting down of the San Diego office, the scuttling of EoN, the returning to Crytek Warface etc etc etc.

SallyBowls1 Ceder  Only because of complacency and apathy as exhibited….

Armsbend Ceder  Their first dip into the founders pack waters was Trove, they even went as far as to have like thousands of dollars ones like Star Citizen.

Ceder Personally, I expect about zero of the games I read about here to not have Founder’s Packs. And the Kickstarter ones are asking for money a couple of years prior to Founders Packs.  IMO, in a world of Kickstarter, Paid Alpha, Paid Beta, and Steam EA, an overpriced Founders pack for a shipping game is no longer near the worse.
