The Daily Grind: What are your fall MMO gaming plans?

144

Hope you had a good summer, ’cause it’s pretty much over. Yes ma’am, we’re staring right into the pumpkin spice corridor known as “fall,” which means that things are about to get downright crazy in MMO town.

So what are your plans for this fall? Will you be picking up Heart of Thorns? Is WildStar’s free-to-play conversion got you anxious to head back? Do you anticipate BlizzCon sparking back up your World of Warcraft interest? What about Star Wars: The Old Republic’s new episodic content? Or maybe you have grand plans for a project in a game you’re already playing!

Whatever it is, spill. We’re all ears.

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

This is more my Fall-Winter plan. Or even 2015-2016 plan. In no particular order except by what comes to mind first.

For MMOs:Get into catching up on RIFT’s story. I stopped mid-Nightmare Saga and the dungeons. Fill out some content I haven’t done. Get into T1 raiding. None of this is a big deal though. Will check out Planetouched Wilds.Catching up on SWTOR’s story. I’ll subscribe one month that I feel like it (October? November?) and bring my main to finish Lv 55 and 60 story, before trying KOTFE. May make a fresh KOTFE character too.Check out GW2. Just check it out.Check out Wildstar F2P. Just check it out.If I have the money and time and especially will (helped by if friends or my partner want to join), buy into FFXIV:ARR.This goes the same (even moreso) for TESO. Once I can, I’ll buy into that game quickly. My partner finally tried TSW again after several months. This is a good sign. Maybe we can complete Solomon Island this year, at least. I’d love to move through all the content including all DLC and some endgame grind with him by the end of next year, but I can’t get my hopes up. Would be cool though!I’d like to get all content done in Defiance. It seems to never happen, but I want to. I’m liking the show more and more (Season 4 renewal please), and I’d like to experience this ‘transmedia’ :P.May advance in Skyforge. Or not.

For non-MMOs (TBH my focus lately): Get more seriously into Hearthstone, get enough cards, especially classic ones, that I feel like I’m progressing and, I dunno, doing stuff.Playing Dragon Age: Inquisition. I deleted my old profile (almost all original content complete), and started a more dedicated Nightmare run. Half way into that. I’ll get all the DLCs, I’ve decided, but I may wait for sales that bring the total price down to lower than $40-50, instead of what seems to be $65+ if I want everything ($10 Deluxe Upgrade, $10 for the Spoils packs so far, $45 for all the SP DLC, and I won’t be spending anything on MP, but there might be more non-SP DLC item packs etc coming).  After I get all DLC – which I may get incrementally by month since they sorta bundle together (normal price $10 for Deluxe, then $20 for Jaws of Hakkon and Spoils of the Qunari, then $15 for Descent, then $20 for Trespasser and Spoils of the Qunari) – I may finish my main Nightmare playthrough, and my main story alt, and then get into trying the upcoming difficulty toggles to get the new achievements. But this stage of DAI may wait for a future year.Playing Mass Effect 2 with my friend. She has been visiting less due to work, but we’re still moving along the series together, skipping stuff like codex and planet reading, but otherwise doing all content in ME2 and all main content in ME1. One day we’ll finish this.Playing the Mass Effect trilogy for myself. I have my main PC playthrough in progress, but ideally I’ll have up to 6-7 Shepards done, even other default ones starting from ME2 and ME3. But for now, I’m fine with 1-3 (MainShep, FemShep, RacistJerkShep if I can get around to it).Shadowrun I didn’t exactly get legitimately, I stopped my playthrough until I buy through Steam or something. I like it, but I’ll need to pour more effort in next time.

Other games that pique my interest from this comment stream:Fallout 4, the first one that actually get me hyped at all. I wasn’t into Fallout 3/NV hype, and wasn’t really even much of a gamer during Fallout 1/2, but this one, this one looks like its at least fun.
XCom2, looks like the XCom I was looking for when I saw the first (of this new gen of the series) one. An eye on it, though definitely not getting it at release.Diablo 3, but this may still wait until they release a 2nd expansion, if they do. Same for Starcraft 2, but we know that expansion is coming. (On the other hand, I’m not super interested in Overwatch, don’t care to get into Heroes of the Storm though I liked what I did play, and WoW just isn’t happening unless it goes non-sub)Not a game, but my partner is interested in getting a PS4 in the next year (as am I), and I’m interested in getting XBO to fill out the collection. He’d also be jumping to get whatever new Nintendo console too. This isn’t a big deal now, but it may be more in 2016, especially by some point in 2017. For now we have our PCs and phones, both have different Nintendo 3DSes (he has a newer XL), I have a 360 that I rarely use anymore, he has a WiiU that he often uses, and we have older Wii, Gamecube, SNES, etc(?) consoles that mostly gather dust. I used to have a PS2 but finally sold all the stuff about that, opting for console update versions or just PC emulation if I really need to play a PS2 game. Also interested in what happens to VR, but no, I haven’t been an early tester, and I probably won’t be an early adopter. Like the console purchases, it’d be more 2016-2017, though I can see myself waiting until even 2018-2019, even if its very successful.’Good’ news is that I’ve successfully abandoned even trying some MMOs that I was too stuck on before. Neverwinter, TERA, ArcheAge, LOTRO, and maybe Marvel Heroes… why? Why even try? I get bothered by all of them, or they just don’t sync with my interests, so why bother?Watching Atlas Reactor from Trove. Particularly because, while its been trashtalked about that, *I* am actually interested in the gameplay premise they showed us.

The MAIN thing is a lot of Bioware. I’ve decided this for sure. I want to get more into DAI now that its running better on my PC and I am receiving its content better than initially (I have plans to play all the other games again too, but not yet). I want to set up my Mass Effect story even if anything Andromeda does will probably not use my save file, if it does any story transfer. I want to check into KOTFE and see if it was worth it for them to make. I even want to check out the Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights games, and replay the KOTOR and Jade Empire. Everything else is secondary to my Bioware interest that I’ve decided to act on. Even, or maybe especially, MMOs.

Well, pre-purchased Heart of Thorns so that will probably take up the bulk of my fall/winter gaming. Looking forward to jumping into Wildstar when that goes f2p. I played in a couple of the beta weekends prior to launch and I like the combat, art design and sci-fi setting. Pillars of Eternity continues to satiate my classic rpg itch and I plan on getting the xpack sometime before the end of the year.
Then there’s this little game called Fallout 4 that will more than likely be a Christmas present to myself.

Probably some P99, D3, FPS games until a decent MMO comes out. I got heavy into P99 a few months ago, then it kinda died when I started raiding, but now I’m just ping ponging between games like crazy. Tried going back to Archeage, but that’s getting closer and closer to a casket, so I don’t know.

I need Star Citizen or Crowfall or something to come out and be good. #2016 + 10 years (SC)

I may go back and give GW2 and TSW and STO another spin.    Just haven’t played them in a while.
LOTRO has become rather easy to play, I have gone from 1 to level 43 in a really short time (compared to originally when the game launched without so many buffs, helpers, trackers, and arrows pointing you the right way) on Brandywine.

I’m probably going to pick up HoT but I probably wont get around to playing Guild Wars 2 in a while. Have MGS and Shadowrun I need to play though, then Destiny needs some time. I’ll probably fit in Diablo 3 when I can with Gorgon and Warframe whenever my friends are around.

Im beginning to wind down from WoW now that the content will start to dry up so I was thinking about maybe going back to TSW or TOR and starting again from scratch as its been years since i played either!  I may do the same with RIFT but not sure how well supported that game is nowadays.

Nothing. None out worth playing.

Archeage would have been good if it wasnt for the labor points and hacks.
