Heroes & Generals releases Xylander patch

7

Reto-Moto has updated World War II shooter Heroes & Generals with a patch called Xylander. It adds new killing tools for Soviet players as well as new weapon skins, camouflage uniforms, XP bonuses, a new credit-earning model, and something called the Battle Director.

The Battle Director is an algorithm that identifies “suitable” war battles and allows players to join them, as opposed to the occasionally unbalanced battles that result when player generals manage resources and maneuver units. Players will gain extra bonuses for rank and ribbon XP when they join these new curated battles.

The devs have also tweaked the base salary mechanic to reflect active play time instead of completed battles. Base salary increases with rank increases, and you get additional money by capping and killing. You’ll also get a bonus if you stay until the end of a battle. Click past the cut to watch the Xylander preview video.

Why didnt they just make a real MMO instead of making a lobby shooter and calling it an MMO?

I so want someone to remake Battleground Europe. =/

I haven’t played with everything yet but thus far, I like the changes.  The increase to xp and currency for war missions has been great and honestly I haven’t noticed some of the other issues folks here have mentioned.  All in all, this is one of the better team FPS games out there, really enjoying playing it with my H1Z1 clan.

Blackomen I’ve used all of the new-dual mode rifles that have been added. The AVS, while strong, has weak points that offset its strengths. The small magazine is a pretty large drawback. It also has considerable recoil, similar to most of the Soviet weapons. The hipfire accuracy is also pretty crap. That said, I prefer the AVS to the M2 as I feel the greater accuracy and range of the AVS gives it the versatility I desire in such a weapon.

Reto also fixed some small things that they screwed up with the previous update. Such as all the dirt and hair they had added to rifle scopes. Scope view is much more clean in Xylander. Although still not as clear as it was before they added all the new scopes.
Since I began playing about a year and a half ago the overall skill level required to be “good” has increased. Rifle sway, removal of iron sight zoom, and an across the board decrease in weapon damage (minor but significant) all add up to make killing your opponents more difficult. I think that’s probably a good thing.
Although I would still prefer for the automatic team-wide spotting to be removed, the game is in a pretty nice spot right now as far as the feel of FPS play.

A few good changes, a few bad. Give the Russians an assault rifle better than the other factions, bad. Give Russians by FAR the best camo, bad. But the pay changes are fantastic, and the auto resolved crap battles is fantastic. So 2 bad changes, 2 good. Patch breaks even.
