Betawatch: September 4th, 2015

The pre-alpha testing for Crowfall has started, which is really great even if it’s mostly just people beating the snot out of one another whilst I complain about the very notion of “pre-alpha” as a test phase. Seriously, we have a term for when parts of the game are in an early test stage, that’s what an alpha is. You can also check out how the game has evolved and check out some community answers.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the testing community:

And as always, there’s our listing of games in testing down below. Notice something that we missed? Let us know in the comments!

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed.

Albion Online: Summer alpha over, closed beta en route

Alright so keep those 4 facets on passive, and if I run out switch to Dwarf do Hammertimer/stability brick road then back to Glint?

Herald is about balancing your energy with the energy-sucking F3 and #1 healing boons,  keep #3, #4, and #5 up any time they’re on CD for use of the boons constantly. #5 is also energy sucking, but not worth the boon so much as the damage/CC push back-interrupt it provides.
If you’re doing large group fights for PvE, seems that Glint+Ventari is the closest thing GW2 has to a pure healer.  Staff skills provide some heals on the #4 and #1 if you get into melee range, while #3 provide that block when things get hot.  The proper speccing will put your +healing at a very nice number to keep allies alive.
I’ve not done much with Shiro or Malyx to provide much feedback with those Legends or their specs.  Jalice is an okay one for …well, he’s a tanky build for tanking, but not much else.

Skill #1:  Logout.
Skill #2: Delete Necromancer
Skill #3: Create Beta Character
Skill #4 or #5:  Create Tempest or Create Herald.
This rotation is only needed once for a perfect win.

Hey to all you folks playing the GW2 Beta weekend that doesn’t exist in this article what skill rotation would you recommend for the Reaper which obviously is unavailable according to this article so therefore the Beta Weekend event isn’t really happening even though it is?

Tridus iridescence  While I wouldn’t mind seeing another game try to translate Pathfinder pnp to an MMO setting the Pathfinder name really had nothing to do with why I backed this for several hundrred dollars. I think a less gank=heavy EVE in a fantasy setting has great potential and could have found a good  niche. Of course they’ve alienated many people by releasing and charging for the game far before it’s ready. If only they had focused more on building up good will like Project Gorgon or Repopulation. It’s a lesson in how not to do Kickstarter. Really disappointing.

iridescence It was a good idea to take an IP known almost entirely for cooperative party PvE play, and make a PvP MMO out of it? What’s the market for that? The people who play Pathfinder aren’t it because this game in no way resembles Pathfinder, and the name isn’t going to draw in anyone else.

No… this was an incredibly terrible idea right from the outset.

Pre-alpha for Crowfall makes sense. You aren’t testing Crowfall, you’re testing a prototype arena they created to evaluate certain features of Crowfall. The final game won’t resemble that prototype in terms of high-level game flow.
