SkySaga’s latest alpha patch adds playable monkeys and a dinosaur zone

Alpha 5 for SkySaga has landed — and the monkeys have hit the fan.

Playable monkey characters are only the surface for this massive game update. The patch for the upcoming sandvox includes more character creation options, a streamlined early game experience, a leaderboard for popular islands, a jungle with dinosaurs, community quests, and rebalanced combat and enemy AI.

Players also have more options to tweak their home islands and add content for friends. Timed races can be created as well as PvP arenas. Because why have others visit if you’re not going to beat them up a bit? That’s game hospitality.

We’ve got the latest trailer for this update after the break!

I want to like this game, but Trove curb stomps it so hard.

It’s a fun voxel based game. The slimmed down new player experience is just enough to get you acclimated properly. This was a good change from the last version. The combat animations are faster and louder. I don’t necessarily like that, but I am sure people asked for it. Will have to keep my sound down now. Looking forward to seeing the new jungle zone and experiencing the dinosaurs.

Siphaed some of these additions do look interesting.

Will be checking it out this weekend.

The issue with playable races seems that they’re all in the voice and tail.  What with armour covering the entirety of the body to where you cannot really see the player character.  That was the case with my lion character and is now the case for being a monkey.

Just logged in yesterday for a bit, so no experience with the Jungle biome or the dinosaur zones.  However the new revamp of the social hub is excellent.  Love that they relabeled all the NPC vendors (still can only buy and not sell yet?) and refurbished the marketplace.  The additional community quest really gives some extra goals to do when the daily quests from the specific guilds are done and over with.

Combat does seem to be easier and swords have a much nicer swinging arch about them.  The degrade of items such as picks and weapons is far less than what it used to be (and trust me, it used to be insanely harassing against the player for actively playing the game).   I’ve yet to try the UI grid (G) in my home island to see how useful and easy to use it is compared to just normal block count system that is used.

Overall a great update, but bad timing for me what with GW2’s Beta being all weekend.  :(

This and Creativerse are the contenders of choice at the moment for “Minecraft-ish” games for me.  I’ve been in a more MMO-mood the last couple months so haven’t put much time in either, but I’ll check this out soon to give myself a change of pace. Getting to play as a monkey sounds oddly appealing.  Now if only I could fly and a friend could come in and play a witch…

Although I am playing Trove at the moment, I think when Sky Saga enters a more stable final form I will go back to it. It was actually a lot of fun.

It was enjoyable entering a dungeon and basically salying anything that moves and destroying everything even the stuff that was nailed down.

Gives you that real Murder Hobo feel.

:D
