Check out these top 10 newbie tips for Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 is seeing a surge of player interest these days with the dual-punch of the core game’s F2P move and the expansion release next month.

While the game is accessible both financially and with its interface and mechanics, Guild Wars 2 is also different enough from your standard MMO to elicit some confusion on the part of new players. With that in mind, friend of Massively OP Bog Otter has put together a great list highlighting 10 Guild Wars 2 tips that newbies should know.

Check out the video after the break!

Ten10K GW2 is tab targeting. Just because you have a pseudo-action activation for abilities, doesn’t change that it’s tab-targeting.
Elitism also exists in GW2, don’t fool yourself.
And before complaining about the “youngsters”, get to lvl 80. I love GW2, but it’s a unbalanced mess, with a extremely boring pvp scene.

solipsis Explain what you would consider to be a bad job?

It all started when they hired Nathan Richardson as Senior Producer. He used to work for Trion and he worked on Defiance. I would never trust anyone who worked for Trion and on Defiance to do a good job.

I will have to disrespectfully disagree with you there Sonny ..
I am almost positive I HAVE played games longer then you .. And most of the commenters here.
The tank, healer, and 2 dps thing has been done to death .. 95% of mmos do it .. It is not fun .. And it brings elitists to games .. Have to have the best of this and this to join a group and or tank and heal.. And waiting around for a tank and healer for a run … Ya loads of fun I tell ya!..
GW2 at least tries to be different and for that it’s why I call it my home as of now.
As far as combat being boring?!… Have you even played a tab targeting MMO?! Lol
At least in GW2 you can move around with 98% of abilities and not have to sit there like a dumb sh*t watching your hotbar and doing your rotation ..
I am currently playing a elemental.. And this is the first MMO in a while besides Tera where I have to think on my feet.. I feel extremely engadged in each fight.
So donno what class or game you are playing there guy …
I’m only lv 20 thus far in GW2 so don’t think I’m a fanboy.. I just hate seeing people report on a game that more then likely they played to only the intro.
If I had any complaints about GW2 it would be its visuals .. Coming from FFxiv I feel it’s a downgrad in visuals… But the game is older so.
For me GW2 is about heading out into the world .. No yellow ! Marks .. No quests hubs..
Just adventure, who knows what or who you make come across in your travels :)
That to me says more MMoRpg then any MMO I have played in recent times.
The problem with younguns today is they want every game to be like LoL.. Or COD .. What they fail to realize is those games already exist .. Go play them!

Nunky JeremiahWagner Might be true about the animations, but GW1 was far more tactical and meaningful combat.

I would love this game if it was not for the horribly boring combat. Why does the combat have to feel so meaningless!!!  1 of the big things about guild wars 2 was removing the need for healers and tanks, but I think have different roles to fill it part of the experience. I don’t know what to say but I have played video games for a long LONG time now and I can tell you with out a doubt that GW1 combat was a lot more engaging and exciting then GW2 combat is. Insane lack of depth is probably part of the combat problem.

Should have included Salvaging, and mystic Salvage Kits.

Rozalinde Nunky The game is heavily CPU bound and while its fairly well optimized on the whole, large numbers of players on screen just kills it.. I’m running an i5-4690k and a gtx970 and the framerate still takes a huge dive in crowded areas if the char limiter isn’t on, I’d set it to the lowest before I started turning anything else down, I have it on medium and it’ll still drop below 60 in the pvp lobby or WvW

I’ve bee revisiting it as well but played it enough before to have 4 level 80 characters. Since I had been away so long, I rolled a new toon and they have a really nice NPE now that demystifies a lot of things.
