Shroud of the Avatar explores the secrets of Nightshade Pass

10

The newest Shroud of the Avatar newsletter has a large feature on the creation of Nightshade Pass, a narrow canyon of a zone that includes a lake, a volcanic mountain, and a massive fortress with a storied history. Nightshade Pass is still a work in progress, but you can get an early look at the area’s highlights right now.

Another upcoming addition to the game is a playable piano, which joins the lute as a player musical instrument. “Just adding something as simple as a piano to the game is a big step forward in evolving custom music and multiplayer orchestrations,” Portalarium said.

Release 22 for Shroud of the Avatar will come out on September 24th, followed by Release 23 on October 29th.

SteveJackn111 The game isn’t very forgiving to new players, but they’re aware of it.  Over time they’ll actually include a true new user experience / tutorial /guide.  In the meantime, they’ve made a Player Guide that might help:

Kithred No word yet on the overworld mini-map / paper map.  But there are a quite a few town maps in the game already.  You’re given a couple at the start but need to buy the rest from vendors in the game.  I think the booksellers in Owl’s Head or Ardoris sells them.

Still no minimap as far as I know. I hope they implement at least some kind of option to buy regional maps off the vendor, and after you’ve studied the map you could get a minimap of that particular region, then piece by piece you build the entire world to be displayed on a minimap. Otherwise this game is shaping up very nicely.

One step closer to being a true successor to UO. Can’t wait to see what this game is like two or three expansions down the line.

Sigh.. Can’t help myself but feel that this game is too uninspired and generic to receive such support from its dev team. Especially while amazing ideas like EQN are being treated like rubbish.
