Champions Online begins Supervillain Onslaught

11

Cryptic has been talking up Champions Online’s new Supervillain Onslaught mode over the past month, and now it is finally here!

Players can temporarily step into the shoes (or boots or claws) of a mighty supervillain by using an onslaught device on a hero that’s at least level 10 or higher. Alternatively, players can fight against these controlled villains and attempt to stop their rampages.

By participating in attacking or defending in an onslaught, players can earn tokens to buy gear and participate in the supervillain mode. Subscribers get one onslaught device every day, while free players will need to work to get theirs.

http://steamcharts.com/app/9880#7d Those are just the Steam numbers. The release of the content and the use of ads in Steam have made the population explode. Let’s see if it lasts.

If only their F2P model wasn’t so retarded, forcing people to play “classes” they don’t want to.
Couple of months ago I installed it and uninstalled it immediately after seeing how restrictive it was.

The whole idea behind it sounds pretty fun.  Even if there’s a stupidly low chance, I hope they continue doing creative stuff like this to maybe revitalize the game so it can get more regular content.

Imho its the resources(or lack thereof) they are given by pwe. As for the devs themselves i give them a lot of leeway both because of what they have to work with and the fact i love superhero mmos and cant stand the thought of losing champs after what happened to CoH.

Cryptic continues to release unpolished, untested (or tester ignored), buggy content.  Even IF you were excited about this release it shouldn’t have been released until the large bugs and design failures were fixed.
I do not understand how a company can receive the same constant criticisms and do absolutely nothing (even a cosmetic fix) to address the systemic problems.  Champions Online is yet without a lead developer who isn’t still fully attached to another Cryptic project.  Even if they WANTED to address this patch .. who is there to do it?  Where’s the leadership?  Who is accountable?  You could say the old dev who returned (Randy Mosiondz) but all indications say that he’s not even on Champions Online full time.

I don’t play the game anymore so i feel a certain Zen about it but my friends consistently tell me stories of their torture and how close they are to deciding to play something (ANYTHING) else.. and that’not good because Champions cant afford another exodus.

quite a bit off topic, other than onslaught ( large quantity of people or things that is difficult to cope with.) brought this to mind. A lot of editing win here…soo much

Actually saw this plastered on the “What’s new” popup on Steam when I logged in last night. Was insanely impressed, that’s probably worth more than whatever their marketing budget for the past year has been.
